I'm in my frist outbreak of herpes...as of this past weekend. The worst part for me is that since monday, i was having the most horrible time urninating. I've had trouble urinating before, but this feeling was totally 100 million times worse. Like a sharp, unbearable stinging just as i started...and then it would touch the rest of the area and burn like hell. I went like 24 hrs without peeing and it was soo bad, i thought i was going to die this way. I called some hotlines and nurses to see if the ER could help me, like numb the area, and of course she said no. She said that if i don't pee soon, then i will have Urinary infection above all this mess that is already going on. So here is what i did and i finally urinated!!!
1. Fill your bathtub with cold to lukewarm water until when you sit in it, it covers your private area.
2. Sit on your butt in the water and let your body relax for like 5 minute.
3. Now change positions. Sit on your knees and lean in. If in this position the water does not cover your genital region, then add more water.
4. After a minute or two of being in this position, SLOWLY start to pee. Stop if it hurts, take a breath, but start again. Just keep doing this and i'm telling you ultimately the cold water eases the urine irriation. You will still have some irratation when peeping but NOTHING like before.
5. I peed this way for a brief period and then got up and stood in the tub. I bent my waist so that my chest was parrallel to the floor, at a 90 degree angel to my legs. Spread you feet a little bit and try to pee now. It should be better. It also helps to pour water on the area that is infeccted while you pee at this point.
I really hope this works for some of you. I know how bad you feel....i have to go thru this crazy routine just to pee!!!! I don't knwo what else will work until the outbreak is gone!!!! Totally sucks, but we will get thru it.

unfortunately the ob can cause inflamation and swelling around the bladder. the open sores irritate the bladder too. the ob lessens with time and will get better.:)

I really hope it gets better soon. Right now, the only way i can urinate is in a tub of water! Its ridiculous!

I pee'd in the shower while the water rolled down me...that seemed to help but the Valtrex kicked in and within two days I was back to normal. You are on meds...right??

Thanks...yes i'm on Valtrax and a cream. I started both on monday. Today I'm still pretty much the same if not more in pain. This is my first OB. Sigh...its really bad. So it only took two days for the swelling to go away?

Yes, but I took Valtrex 2x daily, three advil every 6 hours for the swelling and on top of that 1 darvocet about every 5 hours for the pain. My gyno did approve that combo so I would check with your doc first!! By the 3rd morning after being on that mix for two days straight I could finally pee without it burning, noticed I wasn't as swollen and the few blisters I had were gone (from what I could see). Then I had a follow up visit with my gyno for my yearly and he said all was clear and that was 5 days after the first signs. I responded well to the Valtrex. I heard some people do and some don't.
