I am just curious. I have heard that it's very, very hard to get HIV from unprotected hetero sex, and i've never heard of a man getting it from having unprotected sex FOR THE FIRST TIME, i.e., not from having unprotected sex with a million different women.
Someone in another thread said he got HIV from unprotected heterosexual sex (without cuts or sores), so I was wondering the circumstances.

One encounter (vaginal insertion) odds are about 1 in 8000.

Although 1 in 8000 sounds like good odds, it still happens right? Should we assume that the health care system makes in seem more likley then it is as a scare tactic?
I think it happens, although I dont know from personal expierence. Is it worth the risk, no matter how small?
Not to me.

Good Luck and Be Safe
Yeah, I'm not trying to underestimate HIV or anything, but I'm trying to figure out odds and such.
If a guy has unprotected sex with an HIV+ girl, his chances are 1 in 8,000 no matter what other factors are involved? In other words, is she mensturating? Does he have any cuts/sores on his penis? Does he or she have any other STDs? Does he have aggressive sex, or does he just insert it for a minute or two?
I think if a man puts his penis into the vagina of an HIV+ girl for the first time in his life one minute, his likelihood of getting the virus from her vaginal fluids somehow getting into his penis are pretty small, but I have no way of proving this.

Every situation has alot of variables. The fact of the matter is 1 in every 8000 unprotected sexual encounters has a chance of contracting HIV. No matter how long the encounter, how often it occurs, there is a chance for ONE poor guy out of 8000 to contract the virus. If the things you mentioned lowered or heightened the risk, I am sure it would be part of the guidlines. At least, I should hope so.

Actually the chance is ZERO if your partner is not infected with HIV. And of course MUCH higher if your partner (first or otherwise) IS infected.
So a 1/8000 chance of getting AIDS really has no meaning!

It also depends on the persons viral load. If a person is going through ARS, they are extremely contagious. My husband got it through heterosexual sex, though we don't know from whom or when.
