My husband has only had 2 CHOP treatments, and then all of a sudden he had severe pain on the left side of his face and head, Oncologist knew exactly what is was, SHINGLES!
He's now on a large does of Valtrex and good pain meds. CHOP is stopped for now. Anyone else have this happen?? How long until you can start treatment again??
He still hasn't had any of the rash come out yet, is this normal????

I just wondered how you are doing? Is the shingles under control? Is your husband ready to start chemo again?

Thank you so much for thinking of us! Today is the last dose of the 2 week treatment of Valtrex. He had chemo on Monday, doctor said he didn't want to stop the process since the type of cancer he has is so aggressive. He does not feel well at all. He's having great difficulty concentrating, he's afraid to go out and drive the car, seems very wobbly on his feet to, he has this look about him like he's far away, hard to explain. He's trying to eat, hasn't thrown up yet, but he does get bad heartburn, diahrea, no more hiccups which is good. We have our daughter's wedding in 6 weeks, I truly don't know how he will be able to handle it. Baby steps I guess.

Yes..."baby steps" are so important.
You never know from one day to the next, what symptom will come or go.
The important thing is, he's keeping with the regimen and forging ahead.
Just remind him, it "does" get better. All things shall pass....It's the "getting there" that is hard.
Please tell him he's in my prayers.

You know, I wish I had a crystal ball....I'd tell you in a minute.
With the proper med's and a positive attitude, hopefully, he'll be able to handle it.
I still have to take Tylenol or Advil on a daily basis, and I'm almost 9 months, post-treatment. There's always an ache or a pain somewhere. I'm waiting for it to magically all go away---but, they keep reassuring me, it takes time.
I took Merinol for queasiness during treatment...also Zofran and phenergan (sp?)...
So, there's a multitude of med's he can try, if he's experiencing stomach upset.
As far as shingles go....I don't know. I'm not familiar with them.
I know it takes time...and again, lots & lots of rest and proper med's.
Just go at it with a positive attitude that he can do it. My husband helped me so much throughout my treatment with his upbeat attitude. It helped so much to be around his positivity...especially during my deepest "down times."

I find the more we verbalize during treatment with the nurses and other patients we are learning alot. But no one else has Periperal T Cell Lymphoma, it would be nice to talk to someone else with this disease.
Our oncologist is very against telling people their futures, which I understand, but at least give us a ball park time frame.

I know, my Onc is the same way.
He's optimistic, but realistic, too,...which really we all want honesty, right?
I had a chemo nurse tell me that they take pride in being "up front" with people.
I was glad to hear her say that.
I don't want anyone "pulling the wool over my eyes."
Positivity, though, goes a long way.
I just heard (on t.v.) a special about the power of being positive.
It's amazing how much the human body can take and bounce back.
Someone told me our bodies are forever "trying to heal." That's a good thought, no?

I am sorry he is having such a hard time. People respond differently to chemo. Some people tolerate it with few adverse effects, but others, and there are a few of us on the forum, who have had, and are still having a tough time of it.
My understanding of CHOP is that you get treatment for several consecutive days in week 1, then two weeks without treatment, making it a 3 week cycle. Where will your husband be in that cycle at the time of the wedding? That is bound to make a difference in how well he feels.
I cannot imagine how the shingles is going to affect him. You mentioned that they are pushing ahead with the chemo, but how are his shingles symptoms?
Do keep us informed of his progress, and I hope things get easier.

Dear Sparkling,
My dad has follicular lymphoma and developed shingles on one arm. His symptoms lasted about two weeks. The rash was extremely red and very blotchy looking. He was diagnosed by a dermatologist. He is fine now, except that they can't find a chemo that works and his stomach is quite distended from the lymph fluid. He has had two parathensitis procedures, but to no avail.
Hope his shingles are gone by now.

How is your Dad doing????
The shingles pain comes and goes for my husband. He has one treatment left and hopefully the scan will show the lymph node is either the same or SMALLER.
He's been quite sick, very weak. But we are trying to stay positive, that's 1/2 the battle.

I'm waiting on a Pt scan (Thursday) and we'll probably get the results next week.
My Onc is concerned about a lymph node showing up, a bit larger in comparison to the Ct Scan I had in July.
To be on the safe-side, he's having a Pt Scan done.
I'm anxious, as always--but, I'm always glad he's so thorough.
Of course, the anxiousness always plays havoc with my system.
I'm sooo trying to relax. Thank goodness for anti-anxiety med's during times like these.
I'd be jumping off the rooftops....silly girl.
It's nice to hear from you.
Coming up on the Holidays, is usually when we get to hear from our friends here.
I hope.
I miss everyone.
