I'm 19yrs old 5'4" and 202lbs.

I've been chunky my whole life I weighed 200lbs in middle school (12/13yrs old) then i started running track nothing too great just the 100 meter run, and shortly after hit puberty. I hit 125lbs before my freshman year in highschool and stayed at that weight until I became sexually active and was put on Depo-Prevera at 14yrs old. I gained 60lbs within 8 months and didn't look like it was going to plateau anytime soon like the drs were trying to convince me the whole time I was on it. Well, every since i've been putting on a couple of pounds here and there and they've been sticking, and I mean they are sticking! Well, Ive been reading up on the Depo-Prevera shot and what people's experiences have been and people have said that something in the shot makes it almost impossible to lose weight and people who has been on it for long periods of time have developed Fibermiolgia(Sp?) and other bone issues and other long term issues.

I don't eat very many sweets or starchy foods. I normally eat twice a day (Can't eat in the morning makes me feel sick)And its always with a salad or some kind of Veggies.(Never anything in a bag/can/boxed)And im not a big fan of pastas. I always have enjoyed my fruits and veggies every since I was real little. And lately its been really difficult to be active. I simply dont have the energy. I'm not the typical 19yr old that goes out everyday or weekend going off with friends and going to parties. Not my scene. I'm a stay at home wife with a husband in the military.(BORING!lol)

But anyways, im about 50-60lbs over weight.I dont mind being thick, But its getting to the point where it becoming a hassle. I was wondering if any of you ever heard of Depo-Prevera making people put on weight and making it almost impossible to lose it? And/Or any suggestions on how to lose this weight?HELP!!!

And thanks in advance.

depo has always been sort of controversial, and recognized as one of the bc methods that causes weight gain. There are plenty of other types out there, what do you have to lose at getting off the shot and on the pill or ring? If you try that and you still have trouble losing weight even eating well and exercising, then you should go to your doctor and ask for tests of your thyroid and blood sugar. You say that you don't have much energy, and that is a symptom of hypothyroidism.

Almost any kind of birth control will cause weight gain. Its right in along with all the list of side effects that the medication can have in the pamphlet insert. I've been on five different birth control medications until we finially found one I wasn't allergic to. All of them said they caused weight gain in the pamphlet insert.

Previous to me being put on birth control pills, I was a healthy 140 pounds for my height, after being on birth control pills for 6-8 months or so, I became an obese 210 pounds and I've strugged to keep the weight off ever since. Unfortunately, my birth control pills aren't something I can just stop as I use them to control endometriosis and retro-grade menustration.

I started up the South Beach Diet, lost almost all my weight, then quit the diet and gained it all back. I'm trying to loose it again, but keep hitting "the wall" at 200 pounds. I just can't go under 200 lbs no matter what I do. I tried doing some "cheat meals" the last few days in hoping of tricking my metabolism into waking up. We'll see what happens.

I've heard of a lot of people that don't/can't eat breakfast. However, while I've been researching weight loss, I've come across a lot of websites that say a leading contributor to weight gain and/or not being able to loose weight is skipping breakfast. I'd try eating something very light after you've been up for an hour or so, even if its just a piece of fruit or a slice of wheat toast or something. Other than that I would just try to watch what you eat (no fatty foods, not a lot of sugars, cut out sodas, and if you eat breads/pastas ect., try to make them whole grain), and maybe try out some exercises. I'm just doing some light ones due to some bone problems I have, but something as simple as walking or riding a stationary bike while watching some tv might help.

I think you are doing the right thing in trying to take control when you are young, it gets harder as you get older.

maybe you should speak to your doctor about changing your perscription, and I agree with horizons, a breakfast is crucial to kick starting your metabolism and gives you fuel for the day, its all about habits, even if you are eating the right foods, your metabolism has stalled because it knows whats coming, try and mix it up and add some different foods to it, like nuts and seed between meals

I've been off of the shot for 3yrs now. Havent been on anykind of birthcontrol since. Going back next week to get put on something other than they shot, Because PMS is making me grumpy for weeks on in and I hybernate like a bear for a week and a half before hand not to mention the cramps that knock the breath out of me.

Everywhere I read about the side effects of depo theres always forums with older women that have had the worst of the worst happen to them because of the shot and the main concern is how the weight is so stubborn and they cant get rid of it no matter what they do. And after reading what theyve done they've pretty much tried the best of the best.

I've been to the doctor and had them check my thyroids and stuff theres nothing wrong with me. Well, Nothing that could explain being this obese. I don't eat very many patas or breads or greasy foods Its actually a small portion of meats and a side of some kind of raw/cooked veggies. My idea of a snack during the day is carrots/ Brocolli/ Colliflower(Excuse my spelling if its spelt wrong) I've tried South Beach and Atkins and Ive tried slimquick. My weight sky rockets on any of those I stop doing all that and i lose what I gained and sit at my original weight.

My mother had recently started the J.J Garcia diet in Florida... Basically they give her a shot every week with b12 b6 and lipotropics and they gave her a prescription of Appetite supressants and Calcium Pyruvate Which is a fat burner. Since 2/2008 She's lost 55lbs and is still dropping the weight. She was only 211lbs. And my sister in laws were 300+ and did that same diet with her and lost over 80lbs. I was thinking about doing a similiar diet thats here but, I dont know how healthy that could be. I wouldnt have to change my eatting habbits... well... other than breakfast. But, it wouldnt be that hard for me to do. Its like 200 dollars to Start and 20 dollars a week and whatever the prescriptions cost... which isnt much according to my mother. Im scared to spend that kind of money and not lose anything. Lol.
