I had this operation on my left ear 20 years ago. It was a complete success. My consultant is reluctant to carry out the operation on my right ear. I have a hearing aid which I find unsuitable in most situations as it picks up all background noise. I recently applied for a job with a railway company and failed the medical due to the poor hearing ability of my right ear.
What can I now do?

I hope you have found an answer! I know you posted quite a while back!

I recommend a 2nd opinion. If the 2nd or 3rd doc agrees that there is some reason you should not have surgery at this time (are there other health issues?), then see an audiologist who can maybe get you hearing aids that will work better for your situation. The technology has gotten SO much better!

I wore hearing aids for 4 years, and how have had 2 stapedotomies. So far so good. It is good to know you have had one that is still good 20 years later!

I noticed you are in Midlothian. Is that the one in TX? If so, it may be a drive, but I highly recommend Dr. RObert Owens in Dallas. He did my surgeries and I was referred to him by my ENT, who said he was the best. He does these a lot, so I would trust his opinion on whether or not you are a good candidate.

Good luck to you!!
