View Full Version : Temporary Fix for Kidney Stone...

Last Thursday went to see my PCP with what I thought was a raging UTI. I was given a course of anti-biotics (the type that usually zaps away UTIs) and nothing happened. I was in incredible pain when urinating (like passing razor blades), so I went to the emergency room on Sunday at the urging of my doctor. He said, "you may have a kidney stone and they should do an exam." I get to the emergency, was kept waiting forever. A doctor with the worst bed-side manner came in and immediately said I had a UTI and that they would give me a different type of anti-biotic since the other didn't work (the other was the short course anti-biotic).

So, here, almost a week later and I still feel awful. Now I'm having chills, back hurts, I'm trembling, fatigued and have a chronic headache. Nothing seems to help at all. I have an ultrasound scheduled for tomorrow in the afternoon...

The problem is, I'm in a band and performing this weekend. I am supposed to have a practice either tonight or tomorrow night and then we have 2 gigs coming up. I really want to go to these gigs as 1) I've invited tons of people to come out and 2) because it will be the last time I get to play with our guitarist since he is moving away. Also, truth be told, playing music is just about the only thing that makes me happy these days...

So question is, if I took steroids or something along those lines through the weekend, would that help at all? I just need a quick fix, then I can start proper treatment. I know this probably sounds silly but these performances really mean a lot to me at this time in my life. I really want to play. I've been resting and taking my meds and still, not feeling better in the least. I'm really bummed :(

Toradol works MIRACULOUSLY. I dont know if it's OTC or not, but that worked for me... problem is if you take it more than 2 days your kidneys will die. It's essentially a massively pumped-up Ibuprofen... so that might work too. But I certainly wouldn't recommend this unless a doctor does... but I carry around my Toradol wherever I go in case I get another kidney stone (have had two already and I'm only 22 years old... ick).

I was given Toradol in an IV along with Morphine the last time I ended up in the ER with a kidney stone. I didn't know it was prescribed in pill form to take when needed. My Urologist prescribed Darvocet to take if one of my stones decides to start moving down.
