View Full Version : Question...

I hope this is not a stupid question, but I dont know the answer, so I have to ask... I have been having problems with my throat. I have been to 3 different ENTs and have taken multiple antibiotics and nothing works! The ENTs dont know what to tell me, im afraid that something is seriously wrong with my throat (possibly cancer) but when I mention that or ask for them to investigate further, they have LITERALLY said I was "ridiculous", their reason being is that I am so young, 24. My throat hurts very bad all the time and has been for the past year. I really really need help so the question is...can I go to an oncologist to help determine if there is something seriously wrong with my throat or do you have to be diagnosed with cancer to see an oncologist?
Thanks.

I think that depends on what kind of insurance you have.

But one thing that you might ask to get tested is your thyroid function. If it is off you could have a sore throat that will not be justified by what they find.

Good luck

I had to be referred to my oncologist, but that may vary from practice to practice. You don't mention any other symptoms...congestion? Have you had allergy testing? Can you swallow OK? Have you seen your dentist? There are just so many things, but I'm rather surprised not one of the ENTs has offered you any referrals or options.
