This is my scenario - I became involved with a guy about two months ago and we had unprotected sex. The guy told me he'd been tested for STD's and was clean but I don't know now if that included HIV. He said he was but I don't know for sure. He's had a pretty shady past with multiple (female) sex partners but I know he's never used any needles, his ex's might have. We had unprotected sex 6 times and have since broken up, and now I'm scared about HIV. The guy stopped talking to me, I wanted to confirm that he did in fact have HIV testing but I can't find out. I ordered one of those HIV tests online, the FDA approved one, and will do that after three months. It's been just over three weeks since we last had sex and my lymph nodes in my neck are enflammed and have a minor sore throat. My temp is under 99. The nurse I spoke to said it's probably just a virus. What I would like to know is, what are the generic odds that he could have picked up hiv from, say, 8-10 partners and my odds for having sex with him 6 times? I know the odds are higher for guy to girl transmission. Is having enflammed lymph nodes only without any of the other symptoms a possible sign of HIV exposure? Thanks, I'm looking for some reassurance to get me through the next two months!

a single unprotected receptive vaginal exposure is said to be 1/1000. but odds are never the way to go, neither are symptoms. get tested at 3 months post exposure. he can be telling you the truth about his testing.

if it makes you feel any better one time sex with an infected partner is 1/1000 so your chances are 6/1000 if he was POSITIVE, which I doubt. Also I have swollen nodes all the time in my neck and groin and I have tested negative for HIV. I doubt you are infected!
