hey, has anybody expierenced hearing problems? I am going through a relapse at the moment and my neuro decided not to put me on steroids but now i am having problems hearing from one of my ears. Has this happened to anyone else and if so how long did it last? Its driving me mad because there is also a constant ringing on my ear.

Thanks

Ringing in your ears can be caused by being off balance, or having Vertigo. This can be related to MS....Ive had it happen before and it usually clears itself up on its own within a day or two; however, its something you will have to mention to your doctor and see if he wants additional testing/treatment done.

the fact that you are having a relapse, this might be something that really will go away quickly as it came....your doctor must have a reason for not putting you on steroids.
Good luck and feel better soon.

Hearing distortion can happen in MS, not even necessarily to do with a relapse. I have very slight intermittent tinnitus -- it doesn't happen often but I do attribute it to MS.

However, since you're in the midst of a relapse and you're not being treated, I would advise that you contact your doctor to let him/her know that a new sx has presented.

Just the vertigo/balance issue, but my wife swears it is my hearing too;) I believe I have "selectivus hearingus" ;);) I think all males and teens have this too......

What Beary said ;)

Additionally, be mindful of your ears. If you begin to have pain with them, it may not be a bad idea to see a family doctor regarding the ears. I think some of us too often (whistles, because I've been guilty of it) develop a 'symptom' and attribute it to MS entirely. In some cases, it may not be the MS causing it.

I had ear fullness/pain in my right ear, and finally broke down and went to a family doctor. They had to syringe my ear to clean it (was blocked up badly), and then I went back in a few days and was informed I had an infection in my ear canal. Yeah, it hurt terribly!

If you're consistently having issues with the ear, you may want to ask about an Ear, Nose, Throat doctor as well.

Feel better soon dear!
