I am new at this forum and would appreciate to have some answers: I had protected sex except for oral sex which he did not come in my mouth. A week after I started to have back and neck pain that lasted for 2 months then I have had difficulty swallowing(my food goes down well) and feel that something is stuck in my throat. I had the swallowing difficulty till now (3months) and had a barrium swallow done and throat seems very well. I still have muscle pain that comes and goes....I also have been quite stressed for 2 months so does all this seem like stress or something else???? Thanks for listening...

This does not sounf like HIV symptoms. If you want peace of mind have an HIV test done at 3 months after the exposure. This means if you had unprotected sex tomorrow you would wait 3 months from tomorrow. It is always 3 months since last exposure. Stress can be hard on the body. Try relaxing techniques and see if it gets better...oh and avoid the greasy..spicy foods..you know the good stuff!

Thanks for your reply... I still have difficulty swallowing and pain in my body especially back and neck pain(a little lymph node is swollen) also my jaw hurts a lot. This has been now 3 months except for the jaw hurting it started a month ago... Had the thraot specialist check it out with an endescope and nothing there so he thinks it is all stress related... could you have had hiv symptoms a week after having had sex and last this long? I would appreciate your replies...

You cant diagnose through symptoms!! SOME things that occur in ARS, are:

Fever, sore throat, nauseua, vomiting, diahreha, fatigue. A mono or Flue like illness, lasting a week or more, and occuring 2 to 4 weeks after possible exposure. HOWEVER~~Just having these symptoms DOES NOT mean you have HIV, some people have NO symptoms, some have a few, some have em all. DONT GO BY SYMPTOMS!!!

Symptoms of HIV include:

Fatigue, diahreha lasting a week, vomiting, rapid weight loss of 10% of your body weight, thrush, re-occuring and resistant yeast infection, increasing illness, longer lasting illnesses, ear infections, hard to treat bacterial infections, acne, fever, easy and escessive brusing, gum disease, sores, mental problems, forgetfullnes, and the list goes ON and ON. The truth is you could HAVE many of these symptoms and NOT have HIV! People have MANY of these things and are at NO RISK for HIV!!

So PLEASE dont go by symptoms!! If you think you are exposed, GET TESTED 3 months to 6 months after exposure!!
