I have two symptoms that I have been told initially are peripheral neuropathy, but now I am wondering about MS. I have some tingling in my feet that started one night in June when I wore shoes that were too tight. My initial diagnosis by a podiatrist was peripheral neuropathy (PN). The tingling in my feet is still there but seems less since seeing a really good chiropractor. I do not know a lot about MS but it seems that the primary symptoms are NOT numbness and tingling in the arms and feet. Or can the initial symptoms be just that???

Hi, beachlovr. Yes, initial sx can be just that and I've seen people's dx journeys begin with just tingling or a numb patch. HOWEVER tingling can be caused by many other things besides MS, some of them very possibly no reason for real concern. If you feel that something neurological is going on, I would definitely consider trying to make an appointment with a neurologist. Or, even a good, knowledgeable and caring PCP/GP would be able to start investigating by running blood tests -- these are often done before an MRI, or at least concurrently. Although you can't identify MS through blood work, it is done to see if another cause can be identified and if nothing is found, MS might go on the list of other things to consider.

beachlovr, my symptoms began as tingling/numbness in my right foot/leg which lasted about a week before my left decided to join in. From there it progressed into other symptoms. Blood work ruled out vitamin deficiencies, the MRIs ruled in brain/spine lesions and my LP was positive. I did not have any issues with my arms or hands at the time, but I do now.

Hi beachlovr, I also wanted you to know that I woke up one day with a numb, tingling hand and fingers....thought I slept on it wrong. My initial thought....then, after 24 hours I thought mabye Carpal Tunnel...that was ruled out by the doctor and a pinched nerve was suggestd...The CT scan ordered to check for that showed abnomalities, and a Neuro was consulted...he ordered an MRI which was conclusive for MS. I also had the standard blood work and Spinal Tap, neither of which was remarkable...however, with my history, balance issues, eye problems and lesions, MS was dx within a few days...

To this day, over 2 years later, I still have no use of my left hand or fingers..

I wish only the best for you.
Nikki
