At age 67 and generally in good health, I have been diagnosed with chronic bronchitis. I was a smoker but quit over 30 years ago. I have two questions: 1. What is generally accepted as the best treatment for this disease and 2. If the root cause is an inflammation in the lower respiratory tract, can taking anti-inflammatory medication (or herbs) help? I am also interested in any lifestyle advice.
Thanks for your help.

Dear harriette
I have had bronquitis on and off for 30 years. the doctors have not said i have chronic bronquitis but i am always congested and asthmary
I use ventolin for the weeze and i have also got sinis and eaustachian tube dysfuntion
I had a spirometer test which showed above average for my age which is 54 years old and an xray showed clear lungs and yet i am always congested
If there is a low over you or rain on the way do you notice your bronquitis getting worse?
my ears are also a problem.when is your bronquitis worse

My bronchitis is worse as night comes on. It is very rainy where I live but that doesn't seem to make a difference. I do have several medications the Dr gave me and I have to take antibiotics 3 or 4 times a year. I know most of Australia is dry - is it dry where you are?

I didn't have special tests. The doctor just went by how long and how much I have had this. From what I can read, if you have bronchitis for an extended length of time (say, 3 months) for a couple of years then they will say it is chronic. I have not had any other tests but am planning on buying a breath tester. I can get one from for about $30 (US). Do you take antibiotics?

hi
i only take antibiotics when i have an infection
other wise ventolin when needed
you should have a spirometer test that will determine how bad your bronquitis is
Do you ever have clear lung days?
hugs Helen
