I have been having upper back pain between shoulder blades for a while now. My chest hurts also. I can feel sometimes in my left upper arm pains then it may be my right. I have touch and go pains around my knees and feet - I am debating on going to the doctor - I get tired of the run around from them. Does anybody know what it sounds like?

HI,
I had the same symptoms and I went to my family doctor and asked her for a MRI and I got one on my neck turned out I have a herniated disk and have tried 2 epidurals so I might have surgery just waiting on approval. I don't know if you have the same thing, but If you feel comfortable with your doctor tell them your symptoms and tell them you feel you need a MRI.

Wishing you all the best,

Stacie

Your post has been moved to the correct message board. The upper back/cervical spine issues should be addressed onthe spinal cord disorders message board and the lower back/lumbar spine issues should be addressed on the back problems board.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Lavender, Sure sounds like you have some spinal issues. You really need to have a doc order an MRI. I get the same thing in the upper back & chest, shoulder arm. Dont let it go, I learned the hard way to do so can cause chronic pain for the rest of your life. The C & T spine cause those types of pain. I am going for some injections in the T area to see if it will help the chest pain next week & have had some in the C area. I would bet with an MRI you would find your answers. Good luck Sammy

well I went to the doctor - they did a back x-ray - she came in and said has anyone ever told you that you had scoliosis. I said no - well anyway I'm 51 years old - never been told that before - I asked if that could make your back hurt and chest hurt - well it could maybe since it's out of alignment she said. Anyway they did blood work - for tick disease - tick bite early June - but the blood work then was negative - also did blood work today for joints? Anyway here I sit with the usual pain. She prescribed Ibuprohen 800 mgs.

Hi again,

If I were you I would really ask for a MRI, I had the same thing when I went to my doctor at first all she would give me is a x-ray which showed Arthritis. I told her I would like a MRI and she ordered one and that is when they found the herniated disk. I wish you luck I know the pain is something that can drive you crazy.

I second that, you cant stay in pain. I would request the MRI to. Its your body & your the one in pain. I am this bad because it was let go & misdiagnosed & trust me if I could go back I would have been much more persistent. They will eventually end up having to do the MRI anyway. Then thing is sometimes GPs or PCPs will have you go to another specialist for that to be ordered & that can take some time just getting in. Good luck, Let us know how it goes. I feel for you, I am miserable & dont know anymore what its like to have no pain & I hate to see anyone join that club. Sammy

Hi BRITEEYES22:

Hi there! Do you have a copy of your MRI report and if so, would you mind putting it here so we can read it? I too am going through the exact same thing as you. I'm going for my 2nd epidural in neck on MOnday. I too have a herniated C6/C7 that is impinging the spinal cord. He says I should have 3 epidurals, then he'll refer me to a neurosurgeon. Here is what mine says:

**MRI Cervical Spine without Contrast. The vertebrae are normally aligned. Stature of the vertebral bodies is maintained. Spinal cord is of normal morphology with exception of ventral impression on the cord in the left paramedian location at C6-7 secondary to moderate protrusion of the nucleus pulposus. There is no evidence of tonsillar herniation, and the foramen magnum is normal in appearance. There is mild/moderate broad-based bulging in the disk/endplate complex at C5-6, but this finding does not cause impression on the spinal cord, there is no spinal or foraminal stenosis at this level.

Impression: Significant protrusion of the nucleus pulposus at C6-7, finding is positioned in the left paramedian location and causes mild ventral impression on the spinal cord. It is also possible that this finding may impinge the traversing left C8 root. Otherwise unremarkable MRI of the cervical spine.

Hiya Green,

I'm so sorry I didn't see your post. Not trying to ignore you at all. I have to get a copy of my MRI from 2007 but I have had a new one that I just got back and I will post that one for you ok?

C-5-C6 there is moderate disc space narrowing and moderate disc dehydration there is a mild 2 mm broad-based disc bulging, minimally narrowing the canal but just abutting the spinal cork. There is no signal change in the cork, and there is still fluid around the posterior aspect of the cord. There are mild Luschka and minimal facet degenerative changes causing minimal left and mild right neural foraminal encroachment.

C6-/C7 the disc space is well maintained with minimal disc dehydration there is a mild 2 mm broad-based disc bulging, mildly narrowing the canal, abutting the cord but no signal change in the cord but there is no fluid around the posterior aspect of the cord There are mild Luschka and facet degenerative changes causing minimal left and no right neural foraminal encroachment

IMPRESSION

1. Significant findings are at C4-5, with moderate left facet degenerative changes causing moderate left neural foraminal encroachment

2. At C5-6 There is moderate discogenic disease mild disc bulging, minimally narrowing the canal, abutting the cord, but there is still fluid around the posterior aspect of the cord with minimal left/mild right neural foraminal encroachment.

3. At C6-7 there is minimal disc dehydration, mild disc bulging. This abuts the cord, causing mild narrowing of the spinal canal. There is no fluid around the posterior aspect of the cord but there is no signal change in the cord and only minimal left neural foraminal encroachment.

this is the updated MRI I had this Oct. My last MRI only had the one disc bulging was at 4 mm. So, there is some improvement?

How are you doing? How did the epi's work for you? Let us know Green.. I hope your pain free soon...;)
