Every morning when I wake up I have a seemingly never ending supply of clear mucus that just keeps getting generated no matter how much I blow my nose or spit. There is also great nausea while this is going on. It lasts for about 4 hours, then I start to get hungry, and the mucus is completely gone.

I've gotten an x-ray of my sinuses and the doctor said there was some swelling but nothing major. I've also been recently to an allergist, which was of no help either. I was thinking about going to a ENT specialist, but I figured I would post here first to see if anyone knows whats going on...

Hate to say this but sure sounds like ME! Why it takes me forever to get dressed for work in the morn. Spend 30 min with water pic. Do you use some type of saline rinse? I use sea salt and baking soda, which finally gets some of the yuck out. Do you have allergies. I'm one of the lucky ones with asthma/allergy, GERD and LPR. I call it "List Disease." A whole list. Seems you're going in the right direction. Good Luck.

Sounds like alot of us. My combination acid reflux and bad allergies having me going to bed and waking up with mucus I can't dry up and a cough that gags me and drives me crazy! I am so sick of it. I don't know if it is my allergies or the reflux or probably both. Any suggestions???

That sounds like me too! I have had the mucus thing for quite awhile now, but it has gotten worse with being sick, and had the nausea too. Makes it pretty hard to function. Doctor gave me protonix, seems to be helping some. but don't really know yet what it is. Wish i knew what it was and could help you, but i feel your pain.

Has anyone found out what is causing this mucus? For the past week my throat has been tight with thick mucus that i cant couh up and choke when i try to swallow it. I have also been sick and that is making my reflux worse. I have been convinced i'm dying from this for a couple days now. Does anything help? I am really freaking out, I even made a doc appointment for Monday. Is this the reflux causing this? Thanks in advance for any help!

The mucus you describe could definitely be caused by acid reflux. Acid reflux can cause irritations in the throat and esophagus and your body's reaction to those irritated areas is to create mucus to try and protect the irritated areas - and nighttime, when you're lying down, can cause a spike in those symptoms.

It's also allergy season (ragweed) so that could be causing your symptoms as well.

Unfortunately, at times like this, the best solution is probably to try to treat for both acid reflux and allergies (you might try PrilosecOTC and Zyrtec for a couple of weeks).
