When reading a magazine today, I read an article about ADHD in adults. It said that some people don't struggle with symptoms until they are in their 20's or 30's and may even have been mixed up with having anxiety and/or depression. I've had some rough times with both and felt that I fit under most of the symptoms. I'm still able to do a good job at work and get things done, but lately I feel much more forgetful than ever (this has started since about high school) and zone out many times during the day, even if I'm very interested in something. I forget things right after hearing it and my mind gets obsessive about certain things. For example, if there is something I wanted to buy, I will think about it all day until I buy it. I can be impulsive as well, but luckily not the point where it gets me in trouble. I'm a bit of a perfectionist and pick myself apart all the time. I always figured it was depression and anxiety, as I will "freak out" over little things and sometimes have panic attacks. I thought I was doing better with my depression, but I can tell at times I just feel the same, even when I thought I'd been improving so much.
Do any of you share any similar symptoms and have adult ADHD? Or does this sound like I got things mixed up? I forget a lot of simple things that I should remember and I end up wasting so much time driving back home to get easy things that I forgot. I just want to be able to relax and focus more. Even during my latest interview (I work there now!), I felt myself zoning out quite often, which is a very bad time for this to happen!
PS, I carry a planner in my purse that I write down everything in. If it weren't for this, I think I'd be much less organized and I'd forget more. I write down everything I have to do that day and it helps a lot. I make lists for everything!

Okay, the thing is ADHD is a lifelong thing. It might be that you were able to manage it better in the structured environment of school, and haven't really had problems up until now, but if it's really a new thing, it's probably something else.

I'm thinking that the symptoms just changed to where it was noticeable, but not completely out of nowhere. I know I had some social problems as a kid but I can't really remember all of that. I guess I'll just hope I can learn to manage everything, but it will just take a long time to learn how!

Thank you both for your replies. I will have to look more into it. I feel like I've always had some of the symptoms, but they have gotten worse in some areas. Is there anything else that it could be that is similar to ADHD that I may confuse this with? Thanks.

Stay safe! I used to live in Houston too. Thanks for keeping us updated once you are able to talk to someone about that.

I believe it's getting over-prescribed more than needed nowadays. That's kind of the problem here.
