brit 10-08-2002, 12:45 PM I need to loose A LOT of weight. Anyone that has lost a lot of weight I would love to hear your advice. Sponsor cooki 10-09-2002, 01:29 PM There are many different ways to loose weight. How much is a lot? Under 50lbs over 50lbs or more? Take Care ~Cooki MegHurts 10-09-2002, 07:08 PM Back in February I went on a modified version of the Atkins Diet. I say modified because I changed it and made it to fit me. I ate only 20-30 carbs a day (for the brain to be healthy) and only ate protein for the rest of my food. I ate one good meal a week of whatever i wanted. I splurged as a prize to myself. But I lost over 50 pounds. It was nice! I need to get back on it too. It wasnt hard once I started and was on it a while. I ate salads with eggs, bacon, cheese, almonds, little dressing, etc. I would eat tuna salad. I would eat cheeses, beef jerkey, meat, veggies, etc. I also used to eat 'Carbo Lite' bars (that you can get at Walgreens) when I had a sweet tooth. I tried every kind of low-carb diet bars out there and they all sucked except for these. I highly recommend them! Good luck! rhonda22671 10-10-2002, 12:35 PM MegHurts... We don't have a walgreens here is their another store I can find these carbo lite bars at?? I've tried the other bars also and they SUCK it is like eating chewing tobacco or something they are so nasty....but I have a huge sweet tooth also....what kinds of bars does the Carbo lite bars offer...?? PrincessShana 10-10-2002, 01:28 PM Xenedrine and hydroxycut. I have lost 35 lbs. They both worked great for me. Blondie0003 10-10-2002, 02:29 PM PrincessShana, How long did it take for you to lose the weight with Xenadrin? Midgy 10-14-2002, 09:34 PM I lost 80 pounds on Atkins- lost that amount in 1 year with absolutely no exercise. I would strongly suggest reading his book. Eating low fat/calorie is NOT healthy. I ate eggs and meat for breakfast, snacked on cheese or cashews, ate a salad with chicken, tuna, or bacon for lunch, and then big chicken boob and vegies with butter for supper, or I'd make a low carb hotdish with beef. Lady^ 10-16-2002, 09:19 AM I've lost about 40 pounds since last November when I was diagnosed with diabetes. I cut way way back on carbs....sweet and sugars, breads, pasta, cookies and cakes, stuff like that. I could have lost alot more if I'd excercise more but I am truly lazy. I'd like to lost about 5-10 more pounds by Christmas. Karla 10-17-2002, 04:02 PM I lost 75 pounds on the Jenny Craig plan. It was so easy and I didn't have to exercise at all either. I had to eat there foods for awhile. Then they teach you behavior modification classes. Coping skills, menu planning, strategy planning if you have to eat out. It is a wonderful program. So once you are off there food you can eat your food and keep the weight off forever. I can't stress how wonderfull this program is. paramedik1 11-05-2002, 12:46 PM KArla, How long did it take for you to lose that much weight on Jenny Craig? Also, how much did it cost? Could you fill m ein on what the Jenny Craig progema is like? After having a baby 2 weeks ago I've been thinking about trying one of the weight loss centers like LA weight loss, weight watchers or Jenny Craig...I want something that isnt going to cost alot and I do have to buy their food Chelle1977 11-05-2002, 02:34 PM I lost 70lbs in approximately a year and a half. I did it by adding in exercise (started with 30 minutes of cardio a day - worked up to 60 minutes of cardio/weights mix a day) and by moderating my eating habits. I learned what a "serving size" of my favorite foods were by measuring and counting calories. The only thing I felt like I needed to give up completely was regular soda. Here's an example .. last night I had 1 fried egg, 1 fried sausage, 1 slice ww toast w/ 1/2tbsp B&B and 1/2c of OJ. Basically, I cut down what I would "normally" eat before my "diet" by half. Last night's dinner isn't the greatest example, but I've also tried to add in more fruits and vegetables - aiming to get 2 servings of each in every day. Finally, I started drinking tons of water. I've had 3 16oz bottles so far today. Am about halfway through my 4th and will drink at least 5, maybe 6. Water is very important for healthy living and for weight loss. I think the most important thing to remember when you have a lot of weight to lose is that results depend on "progress, not perfection". You aren't going to lose the weight in one day so if you splurge a little on some chocolate or potato chips, its not a big deal. You should always aim to make your NEXT choice a healthy one. Tapio2 11-30-2002, 10:08 AM You eat well...its so easy... But it will never work if dont exercise...! Just walk 30 minutes a day. Doctor told me that if I run 30 minutes or walk 30 minutes its not gonna make a difference. As long as you walk 30 minutes you doing well.. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Good luck... PS. DOnt do the NO CARBS diet. You loose all the weight really fast then when you eat some carbs it turns into fat straight away...eat a balanced diet! I eat Tuna and baked beans almost every day. If you eat just proteins you can get dizzy spells and feel faint as you dont have any energy. Lordie 12-03-2002, 01:06 AM Atkins or any variant of it (low carb).. I am 50 and if I add all the weight I gained and lost over the years it will change the orbit of the earth around the sun! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif First: the ONLY diet the worked for me was an Atkins like diet, but over time as I lost the weight I started slowly slipping off the wagon, and the weight crept up again.. But this dosen't mean that the diet doesn't work, it just that after time you start eating "normal".. The weight comes back so slowly at the begining that you think "I am cured" and start eating again... I now catch my self at the 5-8lb gain and back on the wagon. I started at 300lb and now I am 250 but I am working out 5 days a week and am built like a brick ****house (big muscls under the fat, and some realy show http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif ). I am now starting another round, hoping to drop to 220 my mid march.. Its about 1.75lb a week.. So to conclude: low carbs is the only way for me. Read the Atkins book!!!! good luck. Tapio2 12-04-2002, 01:16 PM Its not a diet its a life style change. memyselfandi 12-04-2002, 03:52 PM Well said Tapio! No matter which weight reduction method you choose, the most important thing to remember is that you must be willing to change your eating habits for life. Think about it... if you do something like the shake products.... are you willing to drink 2 shakes a day for the rest of your life? If the answer is no, then why start? The moment you start to eat the way you always have, you will see the weight return. Find which method works for you and stick to it. It's ok to slip - life would be no fun at all if you had to be strick forever. Just make remember that you are what you eat...lol. Best of luck! ------------------ 217 /cs 148.75/ 148.75 /115 rainflower 12-07-2002, 02:30 AM You can do it. Dont give up. Two years ago I was miserable and fat. I lost 110 pounds by excercise and dieting. No pills, no special plan. I started by walking every day. The more I walked the less junk I wanted to eat. I drank only water, no soda, coffee or juice. I never ate past six at night. When I gained my weight I did most of my overeating during the night hours, so I knew if I didnt allow myself that luxury anymore then I would have a better chance at success. I still have about 25 more pds to go and it is so hard. Because I quit excercising every day and started eating all kinds of food again. I havent gained but my energy level has dropped and I want to get it under control again. See we have the power over food not the other way around. Good luck. |
