View Full Version : Hypothalamus among other things..

Hi,
I watched a program on TV yesterday about Overweight-Obesity individuals. On the program there was a man that had a Brain Tumor removed when he was young. He is now grown and has an insatible appetite..constantly hungry and eating, yet has been supported by family and doctors to remain at a lesser weight.

Doctors have determined his Hypothalamus isn't functioning properly(may be due to the Tumor cant remember).I reckon any number of things could make it malfunction.Anyway I got to thinking if mine might not be functioning as I tend to stay hungry most of the time. Not saying there is and not meaning to sound like a Hypochondriac http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

I try not to eat everytime I feel hungry,I dont snack much between meals, dont keep much junk in the house.Unlike many heavy people,Ive not been on many diets.

Many many moons ago I was on the Cambridge diet which is a powder you mix and drink. At the age of 11-12 I went on a 1500 cal ADA diet and lost a considerable amt of weight. However,I wasn't finished growing and started out alot lighter than Iam now.I also took Xenical.

I found Xenical to be a good med in aiding weight loss, however I dont have much of a prob with fats, its more the amt I eat when I eat.

I look around at both sides of my family and see tall, short, big boned heavy people.Iam the heaviest though of any of my larger family members. My birth Mother was tall for a woman and had curvy hips.At one time she weighed over 200 lbs but lost weight.Im unsure if she would of gained weight back since she died shortly after I was born.

When I buy groceries,I try to buy healthy nutritional foods. It is so hard to cook for 1 person as Iam single and live alone.I also dont exercise regularly which dont help matters..

I have been trying to lose weight of late cutting down on portions, cutting out sugar, drinking more water etc.I dont want to be Obese from now on.If I eat a little to much or eat a certain food I shouldn't be,I try not to get discouraged and start over hoping to get it right next time...
