I have a growth on my upper right kidney,i ended up in hospital this time last year,with sever pain on my right side,water test showed blood,MRI scan showed 5cm growth on upper right duplex kidney,they do not know what it is,the top Radiology person for my area has never seen anything like it in her 25years,they think it might be some sort of begin cyst,not sure what type, cant do biopsy as they dont know for sure if it is cancer,so every couple of months i have a MRI with contrast last one was on the 11August do not know resaults yet! it has shrunk a little,but i,am in constant pain,some days not to bad but last couple of days i have had to take to my bed,i have been given TRAMADOL 50mg can take two every four hours but do not like to do so,unless cant stand pain any longer,it only takes ed:confused:ge off and i dont like the agitation& lack of sleep they give me,in hospital i was on morphine that was nasty!!! i,am a single mum cant stand much more,not able to work full time only very part time,cant leave contry no insurance copany will touch me as i have no name for my condition& i,am still under hospital.what should my next move be!!!can anyone HELP!!

With a mass that size you need exploratory surgery (Lapo). They need to rule out cancer, and don't let them do a needle biopsy because theres a chance it could seed or spread cancer if malignant ,not to mention its only 80% accurate.

Demand it ,If you have to pay monthly for the procedure ,its worth saving your life .

If you have a lot of pain , and the mass is indeterminate they have to go in . Good luck

Thank you for taking time to reply to me,it has been a great comfort to know what else i can do,i think i find the medical profession intimidating! I will let you know how i get on. Thanks again.

A couple of things I have learned since my own 3cm mass turned out to be a cyst. Firstly, as long as this is only on your kidney (i.e not a secondary cancer), the treatments are usually successful. If it is a malignancy, you are going to lose part or all of your kidney. The body can function perfectly well with only one kidney. If it is a cyst, they will probably watch it or biopsy it. Have you had a CT? I am really surprised that the MRI could not distinguish what it was, but a CT certainly will! Keep your chin up! 5cm is still stage 1 and very treatable.
