I know this medication has been discussed before, but I'm wanting anyone's current experience with the med. I'd like to know if it has really helped anyone, and, if so, how long it took you being on the med before noticing a difference. I've heard more negative comments about it due to the side effects than I have positive. My doc gave me a two week trial and I'm wondering if that's even long enough to be able to tell the difference. Thanks to anyone who can provide some input.

I just started taking it two months ago, I take it on an as needed basis--I works wonders for me but BOY does it make me feel high :dizzy: I mean like my 25 year old boss wants to know where he can get some:eek:

Hi Lynn! For a whole year this has been a wonder drug for me. It's been great for the pain! Although, now my pain is coming back and I think I need to increase the dose. But it really helped me get my life back. For me it started working within a week. However, I've read that this drug seems to loose its effectiveness over time, which is what is happening to me. I just hope that it lasts me a while more because it really helped. Good luck!

I started taking Lyrica in January for nerve pain, and since I also have Fibromyalgia, I thought it would also benefit me for that reason as well.

Well, the Lyrica worked well for the nerve pain, but actually made my fibro pain WORSE! I was in so much pain while on this drug it was amazing. I also experienced rapid weight gain and severe swelling of my hands, feet and lower legs. Doctor finally switched me to Neurontin in April, and it's been much better in terms of No side effects.

I was also so sleepy while on the Lyrica that I had to take a nap every day and felt out of it most of the time.

Not everyone experiences these side effects, but just wanted to share my experience.

Blessings,

Hey Lynn......and everyone else ;)

I have been on Lyrica for about a year now. and i can tell you that it does wonders for me, now that i am on 75mg 2 times a day, plus i take Klonopin at nite for RLS. in the beginning of taking it, i had some weight gain, and i feeling that i was in la-la land and also made me tired. I take it everyday faithfully, and i guess once it gets in your system good, you no longer have the side effects. Now this is from my personal experience, everyone is different. It also makes some people drowsy, as i have a friend that takes it as well, and this happens to her, but it does not do that to me anymore.
I'll tell ya too, the FIRST day i took it, i noticed a huge difference, took alot of the pain away, as i was having excruciating pain. I do tend to have some days that it doesn't work as well as i would like for it too, that's usually when it's very very humid. I live in Florida and the humidy can be awful. But generally, i feel great! I've tried just about everything else before my rheumatologist put me on this. I also take Mobic, which he started me on when i was first diagnosed with FM, it didn't help with that kind of pain (intense) at all, but i'll tell ya, with the Mobic, i no longer get the headaches i used to get on a DAILY basis....stress, tension, and migraines!

I would personally recommend it. I think the 2 weeks will let you know if it works or not. But again, everyone has their own personal experience.

Good Luck to you!

I've been taking Lyrica for four months. Helped immediately with my pain. I experienced some tiredness, but then I had that before I started the Lyrica so who knows. The Lyrica also helps with my fibrofog, if I'm late with a dose, my mental thoughts start to slow down and I get really foggy. I gained 5 pounds in the first week, then lost it all. I've had rapid dose increases and am now at 300mg 2x day. I'm trying to back off of the dose a little bit now (450mg per day), because some of these wonderful women pointed out in a prior thread that we might build up such a tolerance for the meds that we won't be able to find pain relief later in life, and that we need to learn how to live with a certain amount of pain, instead of completely silencing the pain and continuosly uping the medication until it no longer works. I get used to the meds so fast it scares me.

Thanks to you all for the replies. I've been on it one week, and have to admit I didn't take it last night. I have not felt any better on it and have actually felt much more sluggish. I just feel like crap. The problem is I felt like crap before I started taking it too - but not quite as bad. I can't tell any difference in the pain though. I've struggled just to make it through the day at work - every day this week.

UGH! I don't know whether to keep taking it or not.

I have been on lyrica since January and I am in pain constantly. I see no differance at all. I have been on differant milligrams every time I see my Dr. (every 3 months) With the biggest dosage I had side effects with my eyes. Everything was blurry.
He currently has me on 100 mgs once a day. I take it a night. He seems to want to keep me on it even though I feel no differance.

Hi MidnightDiva,

I take 100mg 3x times to feel any kind of relief. It really has helped me, but I believe I have to increase the dose because I'm feeling much more pain than I was before. You might want to increase the dose again. Good luck!

My PM doctor gave me a sample trial of 21 capsule of Lyrica. Can someone tell me what a prescription costs? It is in 50 mg capsules. I have BC/BS insurance, but I don't know if it will cover it. I took my first one last night and felt slightly more drowsy and buzzed than usual this morning. Didn't seem to help the pain much. The literature that came with it said if it is stopped abruptly it has (what I consider to be) withdrawal effects. A friend I know stopped it abruptly and said it was fine. My doc says it is not habit forming. . .Opinion?

Thanks, wren

wrenegade,

Lyrica is an expensive drug. If your insurance doesn't cover it, it will cost a lot. I take 100mg 3x a day and it costs about $200. It will be less than that if you take a smaller dose.

I've been on Lyrica for two weeks now, and although it takes the edge off my pain, it isn't taking it completely away. Currently I'm taking 75 mgs a day, and I'm going to ask my doctor if it should be increased. The only side effect I feel is slight drowsiness, but it definitely is helping.

I take 450mg right now. I prescribed 600mg. It's stabalized right now. When I first starting taking it, I went from 75mg. to 600mg in two months. I don't feel any of the side effects anymore either. It made me really tired, and kind of spacey at first; now that's gone. Good luck, I hope it works for you too.

Dottie54: I don't know your situation, but...Can you ask your doc for breakthrough meds? Have you been to a pain clinic? Can you give us more info about what you've already tried?

Wrenegade: I have insurance and pay $50.00 for a months supply. This isn't an addictive drug.

i had to go off the lyrica after 6 mos. it never helped the pain...could not stay awake even while eating...gained 20 lbs in 3 mos. (still trying to lose the last 10 lbs.) i was not funtioning at all and felt like a zombie! when i weaned myself off it, i was up to 450mg a day. i do take cymbalta 60mg and have no side effects from that.
