I am 31 year old female. I have PCOS and tried to conceive for 8 years. After being put on Metformin I began regular cycles and became pg. Our son just turned 2 last week and is a wonderful blessing to us. After he was born I gained weight back and now am trying to lose in order to try again to conceive. I would like to find out about Metabolic syndrome, what tests my MD can do to see if I have it, and what meds I can use to increase my metabolism. I know I have problems with my insulin because my fasting insulin (not sugar) was 17.3 which is normal, but my 2 hour gtt insulin was 193 which is high, so I produce too much insulin for the amount of sugar in my system. If anyone can help, please let me know. Also if anyone has PCOS or does not have regular cycles, I will help any way I can. Thanks

I also have PCOS, as does my sister and my two best friends. I am also a PCOS patient educator.

It sounds like you are no longer taking Metformin. If not, you need to talk to your doctor about taking it again. It is NOT just to be used for achieving pregnancy.

Women with PCOS are at greatly increased risk of getting diabetes, having heart disease, becoming obese, and getting certain forms of cancer. Currently, the most mainstream treatment for this is taking metformin, eating a controlled carbohydrate diet, and exercise.

Unfortunately, most family docs and general practitioners - and even a majority of ob/gyns - are not up-to-date on treating this very serious endocrinological syndrome. You need to go see an endocrinologist or a reproductive endocrinologist for proper treatment.
