I called in to my dr on Monday to let him know that I thought I had a UTI, but that it was probably a kidney infection by now. I've had them both, plus was put in the hosptial for possible stones in Feb. I started on Macrobid, then I was taken off of it the next day because the pain got worse. SO, they put me on Cipro. The pain got better yesterday, then this morning came back. Some of my other symptoms are a little better (no more burning, still urgency, not going very much, pain). This morning the pain got worse after I went to the bathroom. And on top of all this, I am 27 wks pregnant. So by ob is the one dealing with all this. I think he will send me to a urologist after this. I'm just getting frustrated, because usually the antibiotics start working within the first 24.

Hi fruitloop!
You must be having such a tough time--especially since this is all happening during pregnancy!
One issue with the urinary tract (including the kidneys and the ureters) is that the uterus, as it grows, can compress the ureters impairing the drainage of one or both of the kidneys. This can predispose to infections. If the antibiotics aren't working, I'm sure your doctor will first try to figure out if the symptoms you're having are actually from a UTI (as burning when you pee can be a number of things other than an infection) and secondly, do an ultrasound to make sure your kidneys/ureters aren't all backed up with poorly draining urine.

Fruitloop:
Many antibiotics aren't working as well as they used to these days, due to OVER prescribing of them:mad:
I too took Cipro (3 day course) for a UTI. Didn't help at all. Wanted to take Macrobid but couldn't as the computer showed that at one time in the past I must have had an allergic reaction to it. Ended up on Amoxycillin (7 day course) which finally did the trick.
Now, several months later, I can feel the twinges of another UTI starting. I've been prone to them all my life. Oh well - back to the aggravation of urinalysis and urine cultures again:(
Hang in there ..........

I called my dr this morning, and all he did was give me 2 pain meds since my antibiotics are for 7 days. I go see him on Tuesday for an ultrasound of the baby, so he may ask the tech to go ahead and check the kidney if my regular urine test, that i do every appointment, comes back with anything irregular. The pain meds just make me loopy, but I have to go back to work tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes
