A couple years ago I tried to take guaifenesin. I gave it a few months but I gave up because it was making me feel worse (which I expected because that is what's supposed to happen) and around that time I discovered Lyrica, which has helped so much. I'm thinking of trying it again and wanted to know if any of you have had success with it. Please let me know how long you've been taking it and what dose you take. Thanks!

Hi Crystal:

I've been on guai for 5 years. It has improved my quality of life immensely. It does take awhile to get through the rough time that you can have with this medication, but you do get your life back if you can endure. I am 80% better than before the guai, and I was almost bed ridden.

Bye!

Hi Kristee! I'm glad to hear that the guai is working for you! How long did it take to feel about 80% better?

Hello,

I've been taking it every day for about 1 year. It has helped a great deal, along with Magnesium Maleate, acidophilos, a few other supplement. It also gave me a huge blessing by stopping chronic sinus infections almost completely. I guess it cleared all that mucus that used to accumulate.

I'd say it took about 2 months before I began to notice the beneficial effects. If your doctor agrees, how about keeping it at a low dosage for, say, a month, then increasing slowly?

Best to you, let us know how it is working for you,

Seaturtle

Hi Crystal:

SeaTurtle shares my experience. It does take a few months of hard cycling, then things start to look up. I still cycle after 5 years, but not as severely, as the medicine is continuing to rid my body of FMS junk. I wish the symptoms of this medicine were a little easier to take, but it can be difficult, with some people really having a hard time with it. For myself, however, guai has been the best thing to do. If you want more information on taking this drug, read "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia" by Dr. St. Amand.

Blessings, :)

It seems to help me. I don't take it like I'm suppose to. I just take 800 to 1200 mg a day and it seemed my I had many good days in a row. Before I'd get a good day twice a month. After taking GF, it seemed I was getting 4 good days in a row of feeling pretty good. I don't know if it is a coincidence or not.

Thanks guys! I may try this again since I gave up the last time. I didn't give it a chance to work because I was feeling so bad.

I was wondering since I've read the book "What doctors may not tell you about
fibromyalgia" that when you take the guaifenesin that for it to work you have to
avoid salicylates which is in a lot of products. Is anyone able to do this?
I had a doctor tell me it wouldn't do anything, but if I wanted to try it go for it.

Hi Sammye:

I have taken all the salicylates out of my regimine. At the time I was attempting this feat, I was totally overwhelmed looking at all the product labels. But now I know what to do and it's no big deal. Anything that is applied to your skin must not have salicylates in it in order for the guafenesin to be effective.

Bye!

I am beginning the protocol at the 1st of May. Since I work full time and need to work, I am trying to find ways to make my cycling as tolerable as possible. Any ideas that would help. I am starting with the FA 400 mgs twice a day.
Thinking of maybe spreading the dosage out over the day.
Any thoughts?

Thanks in advance!
Pat

What are Salicylates?
What type of products is it in ?
Is Guai available other than in Cold Meds ? Hypersensitive to Cold Meds. ( I can vacumn the street and the leaves on the trees and possible build a ladder to the stars and dust those. ) I loathe that feeling...

Mucinex is the same stuff---it is an expectorant 600mg tablets

I never had any luck on this, My sister who also has Fibro researched it and all the things you could use or not use---I did not have the patients for that.

But I don't think it helped her too well.

I read that this is a cough medication so how does it exactly supposed to be helpful with Fibromyalgia?

I have never tried it but am curious about it. What is the over counter name to finding this medication?

How long are you supposed to take it before seeing a difference?

it is suppose to break up secretion in your body that build up

Some people there muscles feel lumpy---I am not too clear as it was in 05 that my sister and I were doing this---I am sure she still is, but she does not talk to me anymore.

sounds like a medication to treat a lung issue, not Fibro.

sorry about the issue with your sister.

Re-Read Post 15....
In understanding the lumps in the body... I've got them all over ~ Under the skin as you rub a sore area, behind it ~ I feel a lump. As I rub lotion on, one can feel them really well. On the legs, arms - tummy; They hurt they get big. They aren't cysts.. They're lumps OF

Snot,   hahahhahahahhhaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhaha
O.k. I wrote it...
hope i didn't offend anyone..
Actually its TOXINS ~ Through bunches of studies throughout the years it's found that DETOX using Guaifenisen or another type of mucus loosener... really helps Fybromites....
It's getting through the DETOX :( :( :( Many Months of Hard min. to min. hour to hour physical pain and discomfort. I'd rather go through Labor..
Some Fybromites are unable to DETOX with-n a daily normal range.. It stays in the body and with some the results are painful lumps...

I will be personally addressing this DETOX soon... gotta mentally apply for my BRAVE BADGE.
