I had my left kidney laprascopically removed August fifth. Through my healing process I noticed pain where my right kidney is, and finally it got so bad that it reminded me of the way my left kidney felt a couple years ago when it still functioned but was very painful. I went to the doctor and they took a urine sample, blood test, and x-ray. They said they found white blood cells in the urine and that I have a UTI but they did not see anything wrong on the xray, however the xray they did can not pick up small things such as kidney stones...
They put me on antibiotic for my UTI, and the pain has gotten much better. It worries me though because when I get UTIs I never get the symptom of burning urine. It almost seems like if I get one I don't know until it reaches my kidney.
Could the UTI have damaged my remaining kidney? It worries me sick now because I only have one left. I'm only 17 years old. Tomorrow I have my follow-up appointment with the doctor that removed my kidney.. If I hear any more bad news I'm going to lose it. I am terrified to find out if anything is wrong to the point that I just don't want to go to get anything checked out anymore.
I just want to live a normal life with no worries.

Could you explain the reason as to why you had your left kidney removed?

I've had more posts on here leading up to this. I had UPJ obstruction in my left kidney. They tried to put a stent in to help flow but it didn't help. The kidney stopped functioning so they removed it. Some people thought it was a bad idea to get it removed and that I should just keep it there... But that didn't sound good to me. So I hope that the surgery couldn't have caused any problems.

Still having pain in my remaining kidney. The UTI has been gone for a little over a week now. My doctor does not seem to be concerned at all. I can't stop worrying about it though. It's all I think about anymore. I'm afraid they're missing something. Can anybody relate AT ALL??

I think that if you're not getting answers from your present doctor, that you try another one. Perhaps get some references from friends or family. If you live anywhere near a teaching hospital, they're probably the best places to go.

Good luck,

I can relate. I had my kidney removed because of upj back in July, I have not at a UTI but I worry about getting one. I do not want anything to happen to my remaining kidney so I am overprotective now. I love playing many contact sports which I have stopped doing, there are a few other things I like doing which I have stopped. I do not drink alcohol anymore either. I do go swimming alot more I find it has hepled a lot with the recovery.
