I am going to be having an ankle reconstruction sometime in the future. I think I'm going to get through this year sports wise (basketball, tennis) and then have it in the summer (already played a full year on it). The doctor says this should be fine, given that I was already supposed to have the surgery on it last year and somehow made it to now.
In the surgery she is taking out a small bone chip and then re-attatching the ligaments...has anyone had a surgery like this? How did it go? What was the recovery like, etc?
Given that I'm 15 years old and in high school...should I wait and do it over the summer, or do it over spring break or something?
Thanks!!!

I had something similar in 2006. I was 10-12 weeks on crutches, so keep that in mind. Spring Break might be okay if your sports are over so that by the time summer comes around you'll be able to swim. I had my surgery at the end of Oct. and it was March before I was really able to do most of my activities (karate and running). So I would plan first, when your next season starts and work back, or as soon as this season ends have the surgery so you can be good to go for the fall.
