I read online that the HPV virus can come up years after having sex. I previously decided not to get the vaccine due to risks but now reconsidering. It has been 2 years since I have had sex. so I'm wondering if I get the vaccine now is it going to matter since I didn't have it done before I had sex?

Yes, it could do some good. The vaccine only protects against 4 strains of HPV, but they might be strains you have not been exposed to yet.

I don't understand.
If you were exposed to a strain of HPV 2 years ago it might take years before the effects are known (if it is a high risk HPV). The virus doesn't cause immediate problems.
Is that what you are asking?

to clarify...if the strain(s) have not already taken effect will getting the shot prevent it from taking effect in the future??? I might be thinking too hard on this one! also, are there any symptoms??? yeast infection perhaps?!?!

If you have not been exposed to a certain strain that is in the vaccine, then you should have protection against that strain. You have to remember there are more than 20 different strains of HPV that can affect the genitals. The vaccine protects against 4 (2 of which cause 80% of genital warts and 2 which can lead to 70% of cervical cancers).
I'm not sure what you mean to "take effect." Once you are exposed to the virus you are "at risk of it taking effect."
Vaginal infections (yeast, discharges, etc) are not related with HPV.
