Hello,

Recently I woke up in the middle of the night with a "stabbing" pain in between the ball and arch of my left foot. after about ten minutes, it went away - but would periodically come back. a few days later, (it had still been going on) I notices that it was a little bit red near the location of the pain. yesterday it was really swollen and I could hardly walk on it - today is the same. any ideas? keep in mind that I know that i didn't step on anything because the skin is fine. also, I have very flat feet and need to wear shoe inserts.

God Bless!

I think you should see your doctor. I had bunions, but thought they were just bumps and when I felt any pain, it was due to arthritis. I went on a trip last February and experienced a lot of pain on the top of my foot and then it swelled. Turns out it was in response to my bunions. My foot couldn't accomodate my weight in the normal way, so the weight was put on the middle of the foot. My x-rays showed no arthritis (thank goodness). My point to this story is self-diagnosis in my case was totally off, and when your foot has pain and swells, it is time to see an expert. Your pain and swelling could be due to a number of causes, but it would only be a guess unless you have a doctor/medical professional check it out. Hopefully it is a minor problem and can be remedied soon. Good luck.
