I am new here and I am hoping someone can help me. I have had a foot drop for about 11 yrs. due to a L5/S1 disc back injury. I have tried AFOs but I am miserable when I wear one so usually I don't. The way I walk is causing strain on my ankle, knee and hip. I have been researching the arthodesis surgery to correct this problem. Has anyone tried this surgery to correct a foot drop? And can someone tell me how I would go about finding the type of doctor to contact? Thanks so much for your help!

I would see an orthopedist who is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon.
What type of fusion are you considering? You might want to check out the "triple arthrodesis" threads for some people's accounts of their recoveries from fusion of three tarsal bones. It is a long recovery, so think carefully before you go there, but it might be the right choice for you.

Thanks for that info...I will defintely check into it. I have been doing further research on surgery for foot drop and I saw several sites for Posterior Bone Block. Has anyone ever heard of this? I can't find any information (that I actually understand) on what is involved and what the recovery time is. Any suggestions?

Have you tried the Foot-up system? It is soft orthotic that attaches to the front of your shoes.
