- I was diagnosed with APS after having a full term baby who was 3 lbs. 15 oz.- my body had attacked my placenta cutting off blood flow. My ob told me not to worry- that I had a "mild case" and only to start taking a baby aspirin once I considered getting pregnant again. I took it upon myself to seek a specialist. Went to a rheumatologist (sp) and she put me on Plaquenil. It has been making me soo sick that I stoppped taking it yesterday. I have had NO symptoms of APS besides a small baby. Any thoughts on this? I am worried my Dr. is an extremist and that I shouldn't be on anything except baby aspirin. I am going for a 2nd opinion the end of this month. any thoughts would be very helpful.

I was previously found to have very high antiphospholipid antibodies. I was infertile at the time, and went on baby aspirin the first trimester of my pregnancy only. I always thought treatment for aps was only indicated when someone had a problem with stroke or some other blood clotting type of problem. I was recently prescribed plaquinel (spelling?) because of other problems that I have. I have never taken it because of the risk of irreversible eye damage. I tend to be paranoid about meds, but eye damage is a serious possible side effect. You might want to get a second opinion.
