I have a question for anyone that can help me. I just found out I have fibromyalgia and the doctor told me he could not give my anything for my pain and wrote me a script for water arobics. I am allergic to so many ant-inflammatories and other things, I just think he is full of it.

How nice to meet you! It's time to look for another doctor. This one doesn't seem to understand FMS very well. Is this doc a rheumy or a GP? You deserve better than this!

I've had the same experience as you. I've been dealing with this for two years, have seen several physicians, including two rheumatologists, and still have nothing for the pain. I was given a free trial of Lyrica - but that med is not for me. So, after two years, I'm back to square one with nothing for the pain. Fortunately my GP will give me a sleep aide, otherwise I would have gone nuts from no sleep and pain. Good luck! We definitely need a little luck on our side with fibro.

I feel so bad for those of you that have to endure this kind of pain. How do you do it? I think I'd go insane. Find another Doctor quick! You're looking for help to improve your quality of life, and there's help out there. There are people on this board who've went through years of disappointment, agravation and depression, along with the pain, before they finally found help. Now, more and more doctors are becoming educated about the truth and severity of symptoms of Fibro. I got lucky that my doctor treats Fibro and jumped on board with me as soon as he'd ruled out all other causes. He prescribed me Lryica (works great for me, but there is a steep price to pay in the cost of side-effects and it doesn't work at all for some people), almost at the onset of my pain. I have my first appointment with a Rheumy in November and I'm hoping I'll luck out with him to. My Doc says he (the Rhuemy) believes in Fibro. I asked. I also called the Rheumy's office and asked if they have patients with Fibro and are being treated for that. I got an affirmative, so I have high hopes.
Wish you guys all the luck! Oh, and keep in mind, you probably won't be diagnosed until they rule out everything else. What have you been tested for? Maybe you need to ask your Doc to rule out everything else before he sends you home without any help. Let us know how it goes.

water therapy is about the only pt i can have...lucky i have my own pool!
i have had fibro, plus other physical handicaps for over 30 yrs.
i would definitely find someone else who will understand fibro and the pain that goes with it. good luck, let us know how you are feeling by posting all the time. take care...bevann

Hi, I have hypothyroidism and fibro. and just recently started on amitriptyline 10 mg. at bedtime to help with pain and insomnia. It worked really well the first few weeks but I've had a few bad nights recently. I may need an increase in the mg. I'm taking. I don't know if you can tolerate the amitriptyline or not but just wanted to let you know about it. Good Luck, Kris

Hi J,
Run don't walk to another doctor. What a crock!!!!!!!!!! My advice is find a new primary care doctor that takes this seriously and wants to help you and also find a doctor that is in pain management. Letting you feel bad and telling that to you is just nonsense. What a twit. Make sure you let all your family and friends know what kind of doctor he is. I myself have had bad luck with rheumys and neurologists.......I love my 2 docs, they listen.
Welcome,
AnneBoleyn

Wow, I feel blessed at this moment. My one saving grace was that my doctor that diagnosed it has been my GP since I was 12 years old. He totally understands all about it.

Sorry to hear of your bad luck with that doctor. If you cant get a local word of mouth referral to a dr that will help with your pain, you may want to post on the pain management board to see if anyone in your area can give you feedback or go to a pain dr search for your state. You poor thing!

I am in the same boat. My GP that I have gone to for many many years, knows all my health issues and won't give me anything for pain. I asked him for even darvocet and he acted like I was asking for morphine or something. My 18 year old daughter was in there with me. He told me I would either take Lyrica or I would find me another doctor that would prescribe me anything I wanted because there are plenty out there that will. I told him I was afraid to take Lyrica because 23 years ago I was anorexic and I know if I start gaining weight that it will throw me right back into that lifestyle again and I don't want that. He looked at me and said "well it looks like you have overcome that to me" (I am only a size 6 and am 5' 7" ) I was so upset. Of course the first thought that came to my mind was I must look fat.
Does anybody know of anyone in Mobile Alabama that will help with pain?
Thank you

Just thought you might like to know that the National Fibromyalgia Association (www.fmaware.org a non-profit organization serving the needs of people affected by FM) has just posted a new section on their web site. It is a fibro friendly health care providers listing by state. Go to: http://www.fmaware.org/site/PageServerpagename=resources_hcProviderD irectory
There are so many things that are now available to help people with FM---including doctors who care!
