Hi everyone. I am obese and I have tried dieting and exercise to lose weight but to no avail. What medicines are there available that are covered by Medicaid to help one lose weight?

Coverage is limited and depends on your State.

A long with being severely obese myself, ironically enough my husband is a weight loss physician. I can tell you that the medication phentermine is extremely cheap when purchased throught the pharmacuetical companies. Now of course only those in the health field with such licenses can purchase these as a means of obtaining a pharmacy.
If you were to ask your physician to write this for you it would be the cheapest one out there. Although not covered by most insurances. Medicare does cover weight loss and the medication but I do not know about medicaid. What state do you live in? MAybe I can help. I am going to a diet center today unrealted to my husband because emotionally him treating me will not work.
Sorry for the ramble....just some food for thought.

I do know that Mississippi Medicaid does not pay for weight loss surgery because if it did I would surely do the lap band surgery.

In NY medicaid covers lap-band and RNY. I had my lapband thanks to medicare!
