My husband was diagnosed with AIH in April of 1999, and put on the liver transplant list in November of 1999. He has severe cirrohis. He has taken prednisone, imuran, etc.. etc... He is so sick of meds. The disease would stop, but due to having cirrohsis, he would still have problems, enlarged liver, spleen, low platlett count and varices. He has good days many bad days, and good days again. Right now he is having very bad gas problems. He is very swollen (looks pregnant with no belly button), and has lost a major amount of weight and muscle (arms and legs are sticks) he is very pale also. But my question is has anyone with this disease and cirrohsis had gas problems. He takes prilosec also, and has been on this since the beginning. For the past few weeks he has had gas so bad, that he gags himself just so he can get it to come up. He doesn't even throw up anything just air. Not only gagging himself for this reason, he has been very nausiated and throwing up helps. But I am afraid of him rupturing the esophagus vessels. He has also had nose bleeds alot lately. Then now I am noticing memory loss, slurred speach (like he is so weak he has not enough energy to talk), and slowed reactions. He is also very moody. If anyone is having or has had some of these symptoms, I am very interested in hearing about it. thanks,
toi

It has been a couple of weeks since your post, so I hope things are better for your husband. I am very new to AIH, but the things going on with your husband sound like they could be from his liver getting worse. I think he needs to see a doctor ASAP. Please let me know how he is doing.

yes, he did go to the doctor, and his liver is getting worse. But ironically, that is just what the doctor wants. That way he is moved on up on the list, and can possibly get him a new liver sooner. My husband is feeling a little better, because I think alot of it is in his head. Knowing the why, and how of things helps. thanks,
toi
