Hi,

I'm thinking of trying Brevicon or Femcon FE, but would like to hear some experiences from people. I was on ortho lo, which caused hair loss and mood swings; then switched to Yaz, which caused hair loss and no sex drive. I've been off BCP for 6 months to try to get back to normal and since withdrawal was no walk in the park, I'm hesitant to sign on for a new pill without some advice from users.

So...any advice?

Thanks!

Well I am currently using Femcon Fe. I do like the pill itself (if you can't swallow pills this is a chewable one) and it has a minty taste so it isn't so bad. But I am currently having some issues on it. No hair loss or low sex drive but I have been having break through bleeding every month since on it. Around the 14th day of the pill (ovulation time!) I have been bleeding for the past 4 pill cycles... for up to 14 straight days (it led into my period). The info pack with the pill says this is somewhat normal for the first 1-3 months (but again, this is my 4th) so I am going to the doctor this week about it

But besides that, which could just be a personal side effect, I have liked the pill. My periods have been light and short and last month I did not have a single cramp.

Good luck on your choice!

I was on Brevicon for a couple months about two years ago. The only thing I remember experiencing was weight gain on the lower half. Then again, I work out, and I think I was hitting the weights pretty hard back then, so it could have been from that. I just seem to remember that my butt kept getting bigger and I didn't like it, so I finished out the last pack and went off of it. I didn't have any hair loss while I was on it. But after stopping it, I shed for a little while (month or two). That can happen when going off any pill, though, because of the sudden drop in hormone levels. I feel your pain with the hair loss, though. I lost a lot on another pill (Estrostep FE), it was horrendous. Anyway, back to Brevicon, I didn't have mood problems or sex drive issues either while on it. I took a B complex vitamin every day while I was on it, though. The pill depletes many of the B vitamins so supplementing helps a lot. I've chosen to stay off the pill due to me being sensitive to side effects. If I had to go back on, though, I'd probably try the Brevicon again, or maybe Ovcon-35, which is similar. Good luck, and try to keep an open mind. :) Remember, too, that every pill affects each woman differently. What doesn't work for one person might just be fine for you.

Thank you for your replies! I think I might try Femcon, if I work up the nerve to try again -- I had read that Ovcon 35 was discontinued and the new version was the chewable Femcon FE.

Oh, yeah, that's right, I forgot it was changed. I haven't been on Ovcon in a few years.
