View Full Version : Hiv ARS but negative tests????

would you read my story in brief and tell me if it sounds like Hiv. I am so confused???? Her it is. Last December 2001 I had only 3 incident's that I could have gotten Hiv(I have never had unprotected sex outside of my marriage. This has been difficult because I admitted what I did to my wife. I had 2 vaginal fingering incident's with 2 different unknown to me, women. And the only other incident was a hard lap dance and tongue touching the tip of vagina at a strip club. I didn't think anything of all this until I started getting gradually sick with Flu(diahrea, fevers, night sweats, etc). The incident's happened from November 16th to end of December 2001. I decided to take an Hiv antibody test at my Doctor's Clinic on January 11th 2002. This test was Negative. I then began to feel a bit better and a week later I noticed white stuff appearing on my tongue. I had never seen this before in my 31 years. After reading about Hiv, I thought it was thrush. I then Ordered a PCR test at about 3 weeks after the last incident. I also had burning on my penis and the Doctor swabbed and said that it was a yeast infection. Then the last week in January 2002 is when all Hell broke loose. I got so severely sick that I seriously thought that I was going to DIE. I had no idea what was going on with my body but I felt that a truck hit me! I was so severely sick that I was sent to the emergency room with so severe throat pain and heat feeling in my throat and chest. The E-Room Doctor said it appeared as thrush. I do not know how to express to you how so sick I was, it is hard to explain to others. They gave me mouth numbing medicine, etc. From the end of January 2002 my symptoms got worse. I went to the Doctor the next day and I felt numb and just crippled. I told him everything and at first he didn't believe that this is all the sexual contact I had. I told him at this point I have nothing to hide. The only risk I could think is that I know on one of the vaginal fingering incidents I had just taken off my bandaid because of a split open crack(because of dry skin)on the finger that I used for the deep vaginal fingering. He took an Hiv antibody test on January 29th. I left the Doctor's Clinic and on my way home I kealed over and felt like dying, it just hit me again. I went back to E-room and I was so sick I just wanted to be hospitalized. I'll try to wrap this up with listing the sicknesses that I went through and the Hiv testing that I have had. Here is the symptom's within a 3 weeks to 3 month span. Thrush, severe back, spine & neck pain(couldn't get out of bed at some points), green stool, nausea, night sweats, fever's, fluid in right lung(pneumonia), vision blurriness, mouth soreness(canker sores, hot, burning, white tongue), extreme fatigue, tingling, numbness, jumpy muscles, weight loss(about 15 pounds), constant flu like, and then in March 2002- 2 seizures(however, I did have 1 seizure in 2000 just out of the blue)and I was not faithful with my seizure med's. I just felt like something had invaded my body and I even said to myself I cannot take this and I considered suicide(I am glad I didnt do it). Now, here is the other Hiv antibody test's that I have taken through this year:May 5th & August 8th(at the Doctor's Clinic for Hiv 1 & 2). Both these tests were Negative for Hiv. I have to admitt I was very surprised for the Negative results. So, I just thought it was a matter of time. Now, I have taken 2 (Home Access Kit antibody tests). One test on 10/29/02 and the next one 11/23/02. Both of these tests are also negative for Hiv. The last test is about 10 & 1/2 to 11 months past the incident's. I have never felt the same healthwise since. I have a few good feeling days and then a few bad(flu-like) feeling days(hot mouth, white tongue, stinky breath(same ordor), the neck pain keeps coming back and the mysterious muscle aches (at different parts of the body), tongue burning, unstable vision(slightly blurry-come and go), headaches, etc.
To conclude, I guess because I was so severely sick and still have lighter symptom's that keep coming and going up to this day, could I still have Hiv and the antibodies have just not been detected??? I thought that because I was so severely sick, physically, that it would have to had shown in my blood by now. I KNOW THIS IS LONG BUT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO ANYMORE??? I AM JUST CONVINCED THAT I HAVE HIV. PLEASE! PLEASE! ANSWER ME THANKYOU SO MUCH!

Thanks for your reply! What is your story, please let me know! I feel alone1 No one responds to me(except you and I am so thankful you took the time)and I continue to be sick-"chronic". The emergency room Doctor speculated that I had ARS back in January 2002, when I was so severely sick!!! I have flu-like symptoms every 3 to 4 days, and then I will have a few good days. Am I on a boat alone?? Thankyou for reassuring me but look at this article on this man that continued to test negative but did actually have the Hiv Virus. http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/00040569.htm#00001553.htm

Could this be what is happening to me. They can find nothing else wrong with me, so I am afraid that I have negative test's but my actual physical sickness says more and that the antibodies are just not being detected yet?? Please people respond to my posts. Thanks.

I found the same info you did and i wrote dr. saag the top aids expert in the country and he explained that if this individual had taken the pcr viral load tests earlier they would have been positive but ND on the chart means not done. Ithought the same thing you did

Thanks for your reply. Can I get in contact with Doctor Saag? Can you please share my whole story with the Doctor and let me know if he thinks I have Hiv or not, with ongoing symptom's. Please, thanks very much!

Let me tell you something I have been going through this crap for 6 months and let me tell you Dr Saag nor any other infectious disease doc is not interested in us. They all have told me HIV Negitive take care and see your internist, Rhuemotoligist etc. Nobody will even consider there might be another virus out there. Then you have to put up with the nuts that think this is all in your head. You know as well as I do that your whole body changes. Keep in touch on this board so we can help each other.

to Scaredspittless: I went to my 8th infectious disease doc on Friday and I have now officially given up. This was another waste of time. It was the old HIV negitive you are fine response.. I told him all of my symptoms main ones being (eyes blurry and a cold everyday, and mouth and tounge burns) but it didnot matter) he said I probably caught nothing from the encounter this is all stress. I have had so many doctor appointments and blood tests I think my insurance is going to cancel me. Lets all keep in touch here and see if any of us solve this mystery.

My heart goes out to you scaredspittless.
I am a woman if my mid forties.Slightly over ten years I had a relationship with a man.Whom I found out, one year into the relationship was bisexual. After I got a phone call from his lover.
I broke off the relationship with this man. Directly went to a doctor and got an HIV test.It was negative.
Six months later I got a telphone call telling me my ex's lover had HIV.
I have tested every year since then all "negative".And have been healthy and happy
I have also been celibate for over 7 years.
About seven month ago I started to have symptoms similar to yours.First an odd pain in the center of my upperback ,trouble breathing, wheezing, constant coughing. Severe upper back, chest, spine, diarrea , nausea, chills, always sick, mouth soreness, canker sores, white tongue, fatigue. My weight loss 10 pounds.
I was certain I had AIDS.
Ten doctors later, and hugh stack of bills. Hoping my meger insurance woulded get canceled. I got my 12th hiv test. And yes, it was negative.
According to my doctors this illness is all in my head.
And what do I know about medicine?

These symptoms that you describe can all go along with Candidiasis - an overgrowth of Candida yeast in the body. You do NOT need to have AIDS or HIV or any other illness to have Candida. If you have ever taken large doses of antibiotics, steroids, birth control pills, or eaten a high sugar diet, you could be at risk. Do some research on it and see if the symptoms fit you. You CAN treat it with diet and medication/natural supplements, but it's hard to find a doctor who will listen to you. I spent years and years thinking my illness was all in my head. I've been through so many tests, ER trips, and "specialists" that I can't even begin to tell you how many. I've finally found the answer and am being treated. It's worth checking out for you. There are several good books on the subject and I recomment "The Yeast Connection" by Dr. Crooks and/or "The Yeast Syndrome" by Dr. Trowbridge. Recurring thrush, shortness of breath, sore throats, flu-like symptoms, diarrhea..these are just a FEW of the symptoms that a Candida overgrowth can cause.

Good luck to you!

Here's my story. I'll make this as short as I can.

I had protected sex three times in early January, 2003. Also, oral sex (by her) and kissing.

About one week later I had the worst bout of flu I ever experienced. For two days I was sick in bed with fever, chills and the absolute worst diarrhea I've ever had.

Since that time I have never felt well again. I never got sick before this, but now it seems my immune system is shot. For a period of several months I experienced a mild sore throat that would never go away. Sometimes it would get a little stronger, and throughout this period the back of my throat was very red and it felt like I had a small knot in the back of my throat. After about three months, I developed a white tongue which has never gone away. After about seven months, I started getting a burning sensation on the tip of my tongue and lips. This coincided with a redness which appeared on the tip of my tongue (almost raspberry-like). This "hot mouth" sensation is worst early in the morning and subsides somewhat after I've had a couple of cups of coffee.

Over the last month I feel like I'm always on the verge of catching a cold. I feel some slight congestion in my chest and occassionally sneeze. I'm still very active and have felt no headache and very little (if any) fatigue throughout this period. I have noticed that I get slight sweats and chills and feel like I have a constant slight fever (but no temperature). Also throughout this entire period I have had borderline diarrhea (loose stool).

Initially I was very concerned that I had contracted HIV. I sent away for several home testing kits (Discreet) and they all turned up negative (test period from 3 to 9 months). I also had a recent blood test (10 months) for HIV and it came back negative.

I still wonder whether I have some type of virus similar to AIDS. Maybe the AIDS virus has mutated and just hasn't been detected yet. I saw a web page with a study which followed 24 people with symtoms similar to mine, but I can't seem to find it on the web anymore.

I've been to a couple of doctors but they can't seem to diagnose whatever it is I've got. Probably going to start seeing specialists soon.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Also if anyone has seen the web site with the study I referred to, I'd really like to get that so I can monitor it's progress.

I haven't seen any posting to this board lately. Hopefully someone will read this soon.

I have experienced similar symptoms over the last few years. Tested hiv- several times. Finally gave up an followed self treatment for candidiasis. That did improve my symptoms to a degree.

Have any of you monitored your cd4, cd8 levels? My cd4 and cd8 levels (absolute counts) have been in normal range, however the ratio of cd4/cd8 is 'out of range'. It has steadily declined from 1.1 about four years ago to .83 just a few weeks ago. This is clearly a sign of deteriorating immune function. I have previously been tested positive for EBV and Hepatitis A. My doctor calls my condition chronic fatigue syndrome (CFC) due to an active EBV. But he's unable to explain the downward trend in cd4/cd8 ratio.
