Hi,
The National Pain Care Policy Act of 2008 (HR 2994) will soon be up for a general vote in House of Representatives. This bill will affect the quality of care chronic pain patients receive, and the health and quality of life of chronic pain patients in the future.
The bill attempts to address barriers to effective pain management, authorizes an Institute of Medicine Conference on Pain Care, and provides funding for research on pain at the NIH, pain education and training, and a public awareness campaign on pain. I urge people to review the Pain Care Policy and to contact their senators about their position on the bill. If you wish to have a voice or say in whether or not the bill is passed, call or write your representatives immediately. It was passed by the House subcommittee and will be up for a general vote shortly. It takes no more than 3-5 minutes to email your representative in House and your Senators. One of the simplest ways to contact your representative is to go www.congress.gov They have a form letter you can submit if you don't have much time, or you can write your own message. If you prefer, you can call your congressperson or submit a letter by snail mail. Be sure to mention the bill by name, The National Pain Care Policy Act of 2008, and number (HR2994) when using a form, emailing, mailing a letter, or calling.
