I had osteomyelitis in the femur bone just above my right knee. I saw an surgeon who performed arthoscopic surgery to flush the infection out of the bone with water, I was then put on intravenous antibiotics for 7 weeks. However Im not sure if they could do something that in the area that your osteomyelitis if affection you. I know how painful it can be and cant imagine having it chronically. Hope this helps (not sure if it will), and hope you feel well soon!

thank-you Gracelyn for the information on osteomyelitis. I took two years before I was finally diagnosed. and after that I have seen dentists ,family doctor and several specialist and they all tryed what they thought would work. But nothing did. now they act as if it isn't anything to worry about, as if it is all in my mind. I have been haveing earaches with dizzyness, which I think could be associated with my condition. the doc gave me antivert which leaves me groggy. I have almost given up, I don't think I will ever be cured. It has been almost four years, and the doctors will hardly give me any medication for fear I will get hooked. So I take a lot of tylenal and Ibuprofen that isn't good for me either.

I have had chronic osteomyelitis for over 10 years. They have just resently told me they maybe able to do surgery. I am not convinced. I have had major pain for many years and have had Dr.'s tell me the only help for me would be amputation. The infection is in my tibia bone. I have searched high and low for someone who knows anyone with osteomyelitis and or any research.I have had no luck with any anitbiotics. I have had drug reactions to all oral pills. The antibiotics through intervinus seem to help with the swelling and pain for a while. Please tell me more about what you have been through!!Are they going to clean out the bone?

Hello -

I have had chronic staph infection in my right thigh for a year now. The infection itself never made it through the bone but this has been one hell of a tissue infection. Over this past year, I have had 12 surgeries, 2months in the hosptial, and been on numerous antibiotics. While I was going through all these surgeries, my boss told me about his brother who had a jaw bone infection. He recommended to me HBO therapy (Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment). Well, I got this treatment, 32 sessions, and its been 14 weeks without any signs of the infection returning. (usually shows signs of returning afte 2-3 weeks). My leg is surely showing signs of healing. I can't tell this is going to work for you, but I know that this therapy is a emerging treatment for diabetics and bone infection patients everywhere... talk seriously with your doctor about it...if I didn't, I could still be in the hosptial now.. because my doctor didn't say anything about it until I brought it up.. most doctors don't really know much about it.. so they don't recommend it. If you have any questions, I will be able to do my best and answer them. - Dave

Hell-o, I have heard a lot about hyperbaric chambers to heal osteomyelitis. but I have a big problem with that because I have claustraphobia, and I just can't handle closed in places. and thats why I haven't considered that. Phyll
