For the last 8 years I have had white patches on my big toenails. They are only at the top 1/4 of the nail, a little off center towards the inside of the nail. They are mainly in the top center though, not the side of nail. There is also a speckling of TINY white dots near the center of the nail. The nail is smooth, not rough or thick. Looks totally normal except for the white patches, that never seem to go away of get better.

Is this a fungus or bacterial infection? I am a loss, because it seems inconsistent with the other posters infections. I usually end up wearing polish AOTtime, to hide them.

When the nail is wet, it looks totally normal too, no white patches.

I also don't think it is leukonychia, it has been the same for years and the patches move around slightly.

Thank you for any information!

The tiny dots could very well be the beginning of nail psoriasis. Have you seen your podiatrist?
