I am freaking out. I made a huge mistake and had sex with a guy 10 days ago who said he contracted GH about 6 years ago. He wore a condom, but it fell off toward the end - he didn't put it on right and I knew it. I also performed oral sex on him - stupid, I know. Just two days after we had sex I developed an outbreak on my lip in the same place where I had a cold sore in the past. It turned into a herpes outbreak. Every day I have checked if I had any sores in the genital area. Everyday showed nothing, but today I noticed a blister on the outer area of my vagina. I cannot believe I have been so stupid considering I have not been the type of girl to sleep around. I will make an appointment with my doctor on Monday, but I am feeling like this is almost a death sentence. I know it's not, but who wants to be involved with someone who has genital herpes? I would really appreciate any advice.

Many people have Herpes. You aren't the only one! There are online dating sites for people with vareities of std's. I don't know if this helps your cause.
I actully just had had sex with my girlfreind of three weeks. And she gave me something but seeing as it's the weekend I can't go to the doctor which sucks. I am currently using creams to see if it helps. I am still unsure of what it is. I don't have any symptoms of anything I have read about. The only thing wrong is red spots on my genitals. There isn't any other symptom what so ever. I have no clue what it can be.???? Any ideas?

I forgot to say that he told me he was on Valtrex and took it regularly. He also said he has not had an outbreak in months. I know you can catch it even without any visible outbreaks. I just can't believe what it happening.

So you already have herpes HSV-1 since you say you've had cold sores in the past. Do you know if this guy has type 1 or type 2? Lots of cases of herpes on the genitals is spread by having oral sex with someone who has oral (cold sores) herpes.
They say that having type 1 already gives you some protection of getting type 2 since the DNA of the virus is 50% identical.
But for now, first thing Monday call and ask to be seen ASAP. Don't let them blow you off until later in the week. You need to ask your doctor/gyno to do BOTH a swab of any sores AND a 'type specific "IgGblood test for BOTH type 1 and type 2" - HerpeSelect is one of the most common brands. Make sure they DO NOT order the useless IgM test. Refuse to pay for it if they do. This is an important timeline to determine if this is a new infection or not so get both done.
Let us know the results. Be sure you get a copy so you know the right test was done and the numeric values.
You say you don't know how anyone would want to get involved with someone who has genital herpes ... yet you did. It is not a death sentence. I know its horrible. Been almost a year for me and I still thinks it's horrible. But I don't feel like a hazardous waste unit anymore. I'm still me. And I'm pretty damn good at that! LOL.
Breathe ... relax. One in 5 people have this. Get educated and pass on your knowledge to someone who does not have it ... so they WON'T GET IT.

Thanks. I know i need to relax. I just have no idea why I chose to have sex with this guy after hearing him tell me he had herpes. I asked the guy today if he had type 1 or 2 and he said he did not know. He said he never had a cold sore but he was diagnosed with herpes after an outbreak of blisters on his penis a little over 6 years ago. He did give me oral sex, so I am wondering if I got HSV 1 on my lip and genitals (which only has one blister right now) or if I got HSV 2 on my lips and genitals. I guess I won't know until I am tested. I will let you know what i learn from the doctor.

Could be many things. Don't panic. Have either of you ever been tested for herpes? Have you told her about this and asked if she has anything wrong? This sounds like a good time for both of you to know your status. It could be many things. In my relationships I was always tested from one partner to another for everything including herpes and I was negative. My current partner did not get tested and 3 years into our relationship I suddenly test positive. Sucks but I love him with or without herpes. I just hate the herpes!

If you still have the cold sore ... ask doc to swab that too. The blood test will tell you what type you have but not WHERE you have it. The swab if positive (make sure they swab and type!) will tell you what you have in each location.
If it does turn out to be type 1 that he has and type 1 on your genitals, they say that outbreaks of type 1 on the nether regions are not as severe and don't shed as much as type 2.
Lucky me, I got the bad one! (Shoulda, woulda, coulda.)

Sorry for all the posts....just wanted to add a little more info. I will call my dr. on Monday, but I wanted to add that the sore in my nether regions looks more like a canker sore, not a blister. It's not raised or red and it doesn't hurt when I use the bathroom or wipe (sorry for the details). I have not been sick....I feel fine......my lip sores are much worse than the "nether region" sore. Not to be gross, but the guy engaged in some aggressive oral sex on me......I actually had to ask him to stop because it hurt......could it be the result of razor stubble/aggressive oral sex? I know I won't know for sure until I go to my doctors. I know everyone's symptoms are different....but I am just hoping for the best.

Sorry for the posts.....but I am freaking out again. I went to the doctor on Monday and I was told that I had a yeast infection - never had one so I did not know what to look for. Well, I was given some medicine and thing seemed to be getting better. Tonight - two weeks after having sex (with a condom) with a guy who has herpes - I am now feeling the most intense burning in my nether regions. I still don't see anything, but I am now wondering if this is the start of the outbreak or if this is just the yeast infection. I will call the doctor again tomorrow.........I was so ashamed to tell her on Monday about my suspicions of it being herpes, and I was so happy to hear her say that I had a yeast infection. But now I am shaking, wondering if I do indeed have herpes. I guess the only way to tell for sure is to talk openly and honestly with my doctor. Has anyone else experienced the same thing?

Intense burning could be part of the yeast infection. But you were there at the doctor's office and you had these herpes concerns, you should have asked for the swab and the blood test.

Just got back from the doctor's. I was completely honest with her and she really helped to aleviate my fears. Anyways, she checked me thoroughly, this time looking for any visible signs of herpes. She did not find anything. She did tell me that I should get the IgG blood test in 10 - 14 weeks just to know for sure. Of course, if I do discover an outbreak, she said I needed to come in for her to swab it. I need to stop obscessing about this because my anxiety level is through the roof. If I do get it, I know I will be fine. It's not the end of the world, and there is medication that will make things much better.

Hi there TexW. I was glad to see your post because I was also in a similar situation with a male friend. He told me he had contract GH and never showed any symptoms and he also said that he takes Valtrex every day. We used a condom and everything. I am a big worrier and now I am starting to get really paranoid. I have a slight itching sensation on and around my vaginal and have been feeling nauseated and have some stomach bloating. I am also just getting over a hangover so I am hoping that some of these symptoms are from that. Would you mind telling me what your symptoms were before you decided to contact your doctor?

Hi OPT., I feel like your partner did know that he had it because if he takes it everyday, then he must of had a pretty big outbreak cause most doc. won't give a script. for it unless it's bad. Just mu opinion:(

I'm going to talk with the guy today about everything. Today's symptoms consist mostly of a little itchiness and a sore throat.

Hi Opt. First, I got a cold sore on my lip - which could have been the result of dental work the day before the "encounter". Anyways, I have had a cold sore there before, so not out of the ordinary. Other than that, my nether regions were very red and irritated. I have yet to find any sores (3 weeks after the encounter). I went to the doctor after realizing it could be a yeast infection - which it was. Things are much better now. Keep checking yourself, but try to not stress. The mental stress is the worst part - at least it was for me.

After talking with my partner, he says the reason he found out he had GH was because he was getting a burning feeling while he was peeing. He went to the doctor's to get a blood test and found out he had GH. My partner says that was the only symptom he ever had of GH but never had any lesions or blisters. He takes valtrex every day and also checks himself everyday for blisters or lesions. When we had sex, he said he had no lesions or blisters, no outbreak at all.
As for me, I have had cold sores many times in the past. My whole family does. My interaction with my partner was Thursday night and it is now Monday. Here is what I am feeling: little to no irritation in the genitals. No trouble peeing. I was having a little bit of white discharge, but I now think it's just my normal discharge. When we had sex, we both had been drinking and I was very dehydrated. The sex was very painful because I was not very lubricated and he was also pretty big. I was hoping that my vaginal discomfort (itchiness) was from that or maybe a reaction to the latex condom rubbing my dry vagina.
It's only been 4 almost 5 days since my encounter. Is it too early to be getting symptoms? Is it too early to go to the doctor?

You may never get Herpes so I wouldn't worry unless you have a reason to. Condoms do help a lot though if you are worried. good luck

Ok, someone please knock some sense in me......I am thinking about having sex again with the guy who has HSV2. I won't have sex without a condom, but I do know that is not 100% safe against Herpes. I also won't have sex if he has an outbread. I don't love this guy, nor am I interested in a long-term relationship......just want some sex. Am I completely crazy for even considering this?

yes, I think that you taking a risk with him but it's your body and you have to make the decision. I also know that discharge and itchiness goes along with Herpes so, you may have it anyway.

Did you say that you already get cold sores?
If you already get cold sores on your mouth than why are you freaking out thinking that this guy GAVE you cold sores on your mouth if you already get them?...
And if he said that he gets outbreak on his PENIS then he didn't give you genital herpes from oral sex. If anything you could have contracted the virus from the vaginal sex... but I think that you're letting your paranoia get the best of you. You need to get a blood test and get your current cold sores swabbed... but keep in mind that the blood test may come back positive if you have gotten cold sores on your mouth in the past.
I don't think that you are crazy for wanting to sleep with this guy... you should be appreciative for his honesty and him having herpes doesn't taint him as a person. If you liked this guy... an STD shouldn't get in the way. Yes, it's a risk... but you aren't going to die from this. You're going to be okay no matter what the result.
Maybe I'm just biased. But I assure you that people will be sexual with someone with genital herpes.
