In our neck of the woods West Nile Virus season is almost upon us. Our municipality has now legislated that private homeowners may now use Larvacide in any areas with "standing water" to combat it. It is apparently quite safe though I think I will hesitate to use it. Think of all the drugs, pesticides etc that used to be thought of as "quite safe". My real question is...My sis-in-law heads up an environmental group and has warned me not to use DEET on my children as there have been studies linking it to brain tumours in children. She says to use NEEM. I am still waiting to hear back from her as I don't know whther NEEM is a product name or an ingredient. Anyway she says she has a bottle for me. Has anyone else heard of NEEM?
Also my vet has assured me that there have been no cases of dogs having WNV. Has anyone heard to the contrary? Apparently it has hit horses really hard. Once again though my real worry is about the kids as we have a cottage (mosquito heaven). Any info would be great..Thanks...Tagger
