Hi,

New to this!
I have been trying for about 1 year. Went for two day 21 tests and read 3 and 4. Doc is referring me to clinic.
I'm worried cause I had a termination about 9 years ago - could this be effecting my fertility now??

Don't judge me on what I did years ago. I did what was right at the time.
But now should I be regretting my decision??
:(

Sorry, I'm not familiar with the terminology you are using ("day 21 test" and scores of "3 and 4") -- maybe you are talking about a pregnancy test and HCG levels?

I've found that in general it's usually best to just wait until you've missed your period to start testing, at least to save the money and heartache.

Depending on your age and whether you are diligently charting (CM, temps, etc.) and timing intercourse with those charts... those are things that would effect your fertility.

Best of luck to you, though.

You thread has been moved. Please use the TTC or Infertility Board until you have a confirmed pregnancy. The pregnancy board is for those woman who are pregnant.

Thank you and good luck.

Humm that seems odd you only mention the one test. Have you charted your cycles? If so has your dr looked over those charts? Has your Dh been tested yet? Have you had any other tests besides the day 21 test?
I know a lot of questions but if your dr isnt doing a through job before passing you off to a specialist he/she could be missing a simple issue that might not need a specialist. Also you have to be very careful because a lot of insurance companies dont cover infertility.
As for your abortion years ago highly doubtful it is effecting your ttc.
I strongly suggest you read the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility. Your dr may have jumped the gun a bit and that book might help avoid some costly tests and time lost.

Now to break down the Day 21 test...it is actually a progesterone test to see if you are Oing. But a huge but here one has to be careful because if you are a late or early Oer you wind up with a false test result. Another good reason to be charting your cycles. Anyway progesterone rises after you O and that is what the test is looking for. With the number you gave for both tests those are very low and could mean that you didnt O either of those two cycles or you Oed late and hence the low result.

Im a late Oer so the day 21 test has to be adjusted for my cycle. Normally I have a 34 day cycle with O happening on day 19. SO see the day 21 test if done on actual day 21 would be wrong.
I hope that helps.

Thanks for that. I think my Dr may be jumping the gun in that case. Although I did tell her that my cycle was 28 days usually but now I have started to chart them I know this is not the case. So I could have had a false reading. I will go back after a few cycles have been charted.
My DH has still not been tested but my Dr says he should be, so he will go this week. He was the father the time I had the termination so hopefully this is not the problem.

Hi Lovie77, firstly can I say that it is highly unlikely your termination will have affected your fertility so don't worry (ask your doctor if your not sure).

I also am having the "Day 21 test (tomorrow), except mine will be day 22 as 21 is a Sunday. I'm not sure what you mean by the 3 & 4 but again ask your doctor so you know whats going on and cut out the stress. The stress may have an affect on your fertility.

I am also going to the specialist in January and cant wait, shame our waiting lists are so long. Has your DH had a sperm count done? if not I suggest you ask for one so you have more to go on with the specialist.

Good luck and hope it all works out.
Donna
