Hi, I believe I too have glabrata yeast. Had a yeast infection during the summer of 07 that lasted for four months that did not respond to anything, including boric acid. Responded to itraconazole for 3 weeks, then recurred. Gynazole finally cured it in October of 07. Now here it is August of 08, and I get another! Burning, no itch, hardly any discharge. Used a gynazole, clear for a week, reoccured after I had sex with my boyfriend. Could I already be resistant to gynazole? I am so scared I am going to have to deal with this awful burn for the rest of my life. I am 29 years old. Any help would be appreciated.

stacy918 - each time your were treated was your boyfriend treated too? Yeast can be passed back and forth. Guys aren't really interested in using treatments unless their partner is at them all the time, or applies it on their behalf :)

I have been treating him. We havent had sex for a couple weeks and now the burning is back. Came back yesterday. I can't win. I have been tested for everything under the sun, all negative. Treated myself with a gynazole at the end of August, was clear for only 10 days. Used a garlic clove two weeks ago, that kept me clear for almost two weeks. Now the awful burn is back. And I went through this last summer where I had yeast for almost 4 months. Nothing worked (monistat, diflucan, nizoral, itraconazole, terazol, nystatin, boric acid helped but did not cure it). After taking gynazole 1 last Oct. I was clear for 11 months. Now its back. Could I already be resistant to gynazole? I've only used it twice! I eat very little sugar or alcohol. Just went off the birth control pill right after this last yeast infection. And no antibiotics in a year and a half (even though before that I was on a long course for my skin which of course is what kicked this off). I don't know what to do now! Any suggestions?

I have been dealing with what seems like a yeast infection for 4 years straight. I have been to a few doctors, 2 gynos and a dermatologist all say I do not have a yeast infection ( I have been tested and still treated with yeast infection stuff and nothing works) I have given up on the doctors and their prescriptions (I have been prescribed hundreds of dollars worth of prescriptions but yet they dont know what is wrong)
I think it is yeast (I really want to see a naturalpath but cant afford to right now) the more I read about Candida, the more sure I am that it is a yeast infection. I dont think any of the prescription meds help because they are only helping the symptoms (well not for me) and not the problem. I have put myself on an anti yeast diet and I have started taking probiotics and oil of oregano ( I would like to interchange this with grapefruit extract...when I get a chance to buy some) I have also just done the garlic clove and saw results right away...now I think I just have to clear it out of my body and keep it out by not going back to my same eating habits, I also had two pregnancys close together and gestational diabetes with one add years of birthcontrol and bad eating and its no wonder I felt so crappy.
I would just suggest doing a search for yeast overgrowth and see how that relates to you.

Firstly, has your boyfriend been tested? Some males can have certain types of bacteria growing in the urethral opening and only a gram stain (sp?) test can check whether there is any bacterial growth living there which could be affecting you. Bacteria can grow there on a male and yet there wont be any visual symptoms.
Secondly, treating constant yeast infections vaginally is like applying a bandaid. Back in 1998 i had constant yeast infections which i thought had been cured. Each time i'd have sex with my husband it was so uncomfortable and would burn. I'd be in tears from the pain.
No doctors would help me. They kept telling me to use creams, pessaries etc vaginally, but it never worked for long. It was driving me insane. A friend of our family then told us about an alternate doctor and i went to see him. He tested me and found i had a candida overgrowth in my stomach. He put me on probiotics, good brand of multivitamin and banned certain foods/drinks from my diet for a month. I wasn't allowed any alcohol, no grapes or melon, no sugar in any form, no yeast, no wheat, no dairy, no coffee. The yeast had to be starved and killed off in the gut. That cured me forever and i've never looked back. These days i'll only take antibiotics if i'm on my deathbed and i always take probiotics while i'm on the antibiotics. Sometimes i even take a course of probiotics even if i'm not on antibiotics. Just make sure you take probiotics on an empty stomach and wait at least half an hour before eating so they have time to do their job.

Hi everyone! This all came about two years ago when I went on a course of doxycyline (sp.?) for my skin for 4 months (Sept-Dec of 06) for my sister's wedding. What a mistake. That set off a recurring yeast infection that started in January of 07. I would get it every month and treat it with Monistat and Diflucan. Then at the end of June of 07, that "itch" all of a sudden turned to a "burn". Tried everything....terazol, monistat, nystatin, even boric acid. My doc at the time gave me 12 diflucan last summer which I believe contributed to this problem by killing off all the normal yeast and giving me this glabrata. I had this infection for four months until I switched docs (twice!) and this nurse gave me gynazole 1. That took care of it, but only after I had used the garlic.
Well no antibiotics, and almost one year later, I had not had another yeast infection. I'm not sure what I did differently, but I got that burn again Aug 25, 2008. Went to doc, once again no "yeasty" discharge, treated myself with gynazole, symptoms came back as soon as I had sex with my boyfriend. Used a garlic clove which cleared me up for 2 more weeks....No sex....and I was burning again last friday. Inserted another garlic clove, took the burn away, I may use another gynazole when it comes back.
I am seeing an alternative health nutritionist. No coffee, sugar, etc. Put me on supplements and wants to do a liver flush.
This is breaking my bank account and sending me into debt but I do not care.
What puzzles me is that I was clear for 11 months, and then it came back with a vengence (sp?) no antibiotic use? Odd, I thought I was rid of it.
Only factor I could think of was birth control pills, which I stopped 3 weeks ago with this latest yeast infection. So now I have been bleeding on top of all of this....
I read several articles which state that the "burn" is more common than the "itch" with the glabrata strains, and also that it is very difficult to diagnose becuase of the lack of discharge, which is exactly the case with me.
Because of my past history however, this is the case with me and I know it.
My question is...with the nutritionist help, because do we really have a yeast overgrowth or just a strain that is impossible to treat???
And i have read a lot about flucyosine (sp.) and fungizone cream, not widely available. Has anyone ever tried it before?

HI Stacey,
I have the glabrata too. I have found that it is taking a while to treat too. Difulacan didn't work, nor did terazol. I feel like for me to answer your question it is a yeast overgrowth and a difficult to treat type of yeast.
And yup...not too much discharge. Nor is the discharge that is there typical...whatever is there doens't look thick and cottage cheesy. And yes, the burn is there too. The itch just started for me.
A couple women have suggested gynatren and yeast arrest which I believe is boric acid related. Also an enzyme called candex which they said helps.
Someone in my family swears that after years of a yeast that nothign cured, yogurt applied directly did.
Question for you...When you used the garlic...did you wrap it is a gauze or something. That is somethign I might try.

Hi! Odd that you mentioned gynatren, I just found it on a search and was going to ask about it. I am going to try it, even as maintenance.
The garlic does work, and what I did was go to the vitamin store and buy garlinase capsules. It was like 35 dollars but you get a lot. No outer shell it is just a capsule that dissolves. Helped like a miracle! I've been using 1 of those every other night, then I pull what is left out in the am. The other nights, I have been inserting probiotic pills (fem dopholis) internally. Garlic will kill both bacteria and yeast so it is important to replenish. Also I take one pill daily.
I am now seeing a nutritionist and he says it is very good for you.
Alexis, have you ever tried the gynazole 1? The YI I had a year ago (the never ending four month yeast) was cured when I used a garlic tablet, followed by the gynazole a few days later.
This is a terrible thing for a 30 year old to deal with, glad I have people who can relate. Thanks!

Hey STacey,
Just to make sure...you put the garlinase inside your vj?
I havne't tried the gynazole? Actually is that an over the counter thing?
Now I am on nystatin oral to see if that helps. What it has done is to reduce a lot of bloating (basically got rid of it) I have so I must have the glabrata in my intestines. I think that that is why my doc. presribed it too since we are having a difficult eliminating it. Probably getting reintroduced all the time since the creams are local. Here and there I apply the yogurt too. I am on the verge of trying the boric acid.
Aside from the candex, the gynatren, yogurt, and yeast arrest, I read that some women use tea tree oil successfully and gentian violet...but I have been hesitant and haven't looked into those too much. Someone also mentioned to me in terms of a prescribed thing...sponorax...but I don't know the risks of those.
The gynatren...someone recommended it highly to me since it is the boric acid plus a probiotic included and she said that this was the only thing that stopped a years long yeast infection. they used to sell it at my whole foods but they had said that they would order it if I wanted.
Did you test for diabetes? That was the first thing my doc did.I am neg. but apparently a lot who have the glabrata has it.
It is totally frustrating, but the good news is that we have doc. who tested for it! Since there isn't that much discharge I think it prob. is overlooked for a lot of people.

nope, I am not diabetic and have been tested for everything under the sun. Gynazole 1 is not over the counter. Call your doc and have him call it in for you. Its a one dose, and it did cure me with my first glabrata infection (this is my 2nd) I was clear for 11 amazing months!. And yep I put the garlinase in my vj...lol....but it helped...and quickly. Garlic will kill bacterial and yeast so it helps even if you have a "mixed infection".
I actually ordered the gynastren. They ship it next day on ice for 12 dollars since it is perishable and has to stay cold. I figure I can use one or two suppositories a week now that the garlic has it under control.
What preceded this for you Alexis? Birth control, antibiotics?

Hey Stacey,
Actually it is a long story...and sounds like you. I think it all started with antibiotics for acne back in the day. Very dumb, not really needed at all. Went through many years in school with yeast infections here and there after that, but they would go away rather soon and were mostly annoying but not like this. But I would get them often. I was given diflucan all the time. Meanwhile, no cultures were done. They would look under the microscope. My boyfriend was never treated that could also have played a part. I was ok for a few years after that long cycle.
The latest...is combination of bcp and antibiotics. I had to be on bcp for hemorraging cyst that is very slowly resolving but painful and the alternative doesn't sound fun...and from what I read even the low dose bcp which i am on contribute. Apparently its a myth that the low dose isn't an issue. Then the antibiotics. Then just a bunch of doctors who would give me
diflucan without doing cultures. So like all the right conditions.
The other thing is thyrioid issues. You tested for that? I don't remember did what did you say preceded this one for you? I would notice that my symptoms got worse after eating something carby...so I do know it wasn't just in my... you know...vj:) Maybe you too?
I think I am going to try the garlic...:)
What does your doc say is the next step in treatment?
The good news is that I read about people who have it and the end of the day after a thousand trials they get cured!
Alexis

Alexis try the garlic (one pill) and ask for a script for gynazole 1. Then use a few days later.
No my thyroid has not been tested. I sometimes think it may be overactive. I am going to get tested.
Yep your story sounds a lot like mine. How old are you? I just turned 30 and it is typically in late 20s that this problem really manifests.

Alexis sorry a couple more things: how long have you been going thru this? and why hasn't your doc prescribed gynazole for you yet? He hasn't mentioned it at all? It took me 4 months to find a doc who knew about gynazole and it was a life saver last year. And yes, I just went off the birth control pill. I believe even the low dose ones contribute to this problem.

Hi Stacey,
I am in my thirties too.
I think that there is one post on this board where a woman had glabrata and then finally got rid of it after addressing her thyriod issues.
I tried just the garlic clove itself since i didn't have time last night to get to the store and ummm....it was painful!!! Will go your route and find the garlinase. That isn't irritating to you right?

No gynazole. I wonder if that is close to terazol. Tried that. It helps but didn't cure it. I'll bring that up. My doc wants to go methodologically through the diff. presc. I am lucky with this doc. No one else tested for it. No one suspected since there isn't a lot of discharge.
I have to stay on the bcp because of the cyst. It caused me so much pain last year I was screaming top of my lungs. The low dose is now helping but slowly...Once that gets resolved, I want to quit the bcp forever.
Alexis
Alexis sorry a couple more things: how long have you been going thru this? and why hasn't your doc prescribed gynazole for you yet? He hasn't mentioned it at all? It took me 4 months to find a doc who knew about gynazole and it was a life saver last year. And yes, I just went off the birth control pill. I believe even the low dose ones contribute to this problem.

Alexis, the garlinase is not irritating to me at all. I tried terazol last summer (infection #1) and it did not help. 3 months later gynazole 1 took care of it, but after I used the garlic.
Meanwhile...an update on me. I am on fire again. I almost started crying today why me???? I always think of what a good girl I have been (LOL) and how many of my friends have not, why don't they have these problems (I know bitter). So last night I used a gynazole. I also just started taking itraconazole for 7 days oral.
This is a nightnare.
Gynazole 1 is a one day internal cream that sticks to your walls so you can put it in anytime. Ask your doctor for a prescription it is worth a try.
Do you have children??? I get very afraid I will never be able to have any with this situation going on!

Hi,
I too have been struggling from (almost constant) Reaccurant yeast infections for over 2 years (atleast every 2 weeks for 2 years if not more)...its seems to be the same story as well. I took erythramycin for about 12 months for very mild acne, got a yeast infection and really havent gotten back to normal since.
I have pretty much done everything under the sun in regards to my yeast infections. I have seen 3 OBGYNS, 1 dermatologist and 1 neurologist (this was back in the begining and was recommended by and OBGYN that told me she could no longer help me.) Anyway, Ive done allergic yeast shots and drops/every antifungal that I know of. NOTHING works long term for me.
I eat NO sweets, no alcohol, as this turns out to be torture if I do. At one time I cut out all dairy, molds etc but didnt really see a difference with that. Diet has played the largest role and getting by. Ive taken Diflucan, nystatin oral and vaginal... at the moment I cant think of all the rest but trust me in this 2 year stint i have taken all of the well known ones. I dont think anything applied vaginally will help long term other than make make the infection go away for about a week until it comes back again because I ate a cracker or something.
Other than that the only thing that has truly made any difference is FIVELAC (threelac didnt work for me when I tried it about a year and a half ago) And raw garlic swallowed about 3 cloves daily. At this point I couldnt care less that I smell like a garlic factory. OTC oderless garlic supplements didnt work for me.
Anyway, Im just amazed that Im still in this situation...and that we can send people to the moon, etc...and still sitting around with a yeast infection for 2 years that no one can fix....This is CRAZY!
Im convinced that my vaginal yeast infections are a byproduct of intestinal yeast overgrowth of which some doctors say dont exist. At this point if I catch a doctor telling me this again I might just punch them in the face. Trust me it is real.
Anyway, I wish there was something else to do...research to sign up for....anything. I'll take any advice aswell.

Hi KB. I know it is unbelievable that there is nothing for us! And other species of yeast are becoming a real problem. Its sad that the pharm companies and researchers don't care more about this.
So...you've tried gynazole, itraconazole, boric acid, hydrogen peroxide douches etc???
I am seeing a nutritionist. Also no sweets, candy, alcohol, or coffee. I guess coffee is HORRIBLE but tea is ok. (acid vs. alkaline)
try to take a table spoonful of apple cider vinegar in water before your meals, make your system more alkaline.
I find my situation odd because I was clear for 11 months (Oct 07-August 08) I didn't take any antiobiotics, etc....and the glabrata came back with a vengenance at the end of August. Not sure why.... maybe because I went back to a lot of my old eating habits. I'm obviously not "recurrent" but I get this strain that is so hard to treat! And ladies, coffee is really detrimental.
Anyway as of yesterday I inserted a gynazole 1 and started on a week of itraconazole 2x a day. So far its helping lol. But I'm sure it will come back as soon as I stop.
One good thing about the diet is that I've lost 10 pounds this past month and havent done any cardio! However, I don't need to lose any more weight so my nutritionist has me drinking oils. This condition is sending me into debt but I don't care. I will spend every penny to get better.
There is an antifungal called Zalain (sp?) that is supposed to hit all strains of yeast. I believe they use it in other countries. It comes in a vaginal tablet and cream. I currently am researching this.
Lastly are you also late 20's early 30s? I've read this often manifests them?
And also yeah they mentioned neurologist with me too. Because of the burning. However I know it is not a neurologic condition because I was clear for those 11 months after the gynazole. I am supposed to see a specialist in Rochester December 2nd. I will be going crazy by then.

Hi, I have taken all the meds you listed gynazole, Boric acid, etc. and also alot of other ones that werent listed. I have not heard of Zalin though. (this is a cream applied topically?) You will have to let me know if you find out more about it and if it works for you. The only thing I have not done that you mentioned is the apple cider vinegar...which I will probably go out and get today. Also I have been checked for diabetes, thyroid, stds and HIV. I dont mean to freak you out but def get checked for HIV as chronic yeast infections can be the first signs of the onset of this disease.
After dealing with this for quite some time I can say that I have found ways to make this ordeal more managable...and you are correct no sweets, candy, etc. I would be sure to eliminate any complex carbs as well to include muffins, white bread, crackers, pasta...and the list could go on forever. For me...its easier just to say no bread because almost all bread has sugar. Im sure you know this leaves us little to actually eat, especially if you have to go out to eat. I wouldnt eat any fruit either...if it tastes sweet (whatever it is) dont eat it.
I understand the frustration of treating your sypmtoms only for them to return as soon as that treatment is over. This is exactly why I think that you could spend countless amount of dollars treating your symptoms rather than fixing the problem internally. Obviously Im not a doctor but theres got to be a reason why it keeps coming back. Do you usually get relief from your treatment? Feeling pretty much back to normal then it comes back in about a week? This is what happens to me.
Theres plenty of reasons why yours could have come back though. I was told that if I do get better I will have to monitor eating habits, sleep, etc forever. I will have to take probiotics for the rest of my life. I will never take antibiotics again unless Im in some life or death sitution.
Anyway, have you tried Fivelac or threelac? It is a powder substance that I take several times a day and is kinda expensive about $60 a box (fivelac is more expensive than the three) This has done wonders for me. As long as I take this and dont eat any bad stuff I feel MUCH better. I can go a whole day and not think about it every waking second. Your supposed to introduce new things into your diet and this is usually when I begin to have problems. Last time I ate a blueberry muffin and paid for it for about a week and a half. Anyway, I would highly recomend the fivelac (trust me I was sceptical too) But if your like me I'll do anything to get control of this. Also if you do get it I take much more than they say to. Atleast three little packets a day and usually about 30 min before each meal. You also have to get it online I havent been able to find it in a healthstore.
Also, have you tried to eat raw garlic? I know this is going to make you smell terriable and probably want to throw up while your trying to get it down but it works WAY better than any garlic tab, capsule or supplement. The same reason it smells is why it works so any kind of oderless garlic wont be effective. Its the allicin in the garlic (which is the garlic smell) which kills yeast. I take garlic every night atleast a whole clove or two and this has helped me tremendously. Yes, you will smell...but I figure whatever at this point you just smell like you been cooking all day or something. I rather smell like garlic for the rest of my life than never get better.
I'll be sure to share any other stuff I find, meds, supplements etc. I am very interested to hear about your specialist too as i live in NY and would be able to go aswell.
Also you asked about my age. I am 26 and been dealing with this for almost three years now...so since I was 23. I can say I am better off today ( symptoms etc) than I was three years ago. I used to cry almost every day because it was so bad. So I do think theres hope for us. Let me know if your making any progress.

I am in the process of doing a yeast cleanse right now...but just wanted to mention that it sounds like you guys might have a yeast overgrowth (thats what I am working on clearing out now) anyways to get rid of it you need to go on a yeast cleanse diet (they say 4-6 months), but sometimes it can take up to 2 years or more to clear out of your system. The lady at the health food store recomended candi-gone which I have just started and I was already taking oil of oregano. The lady at the health food store said that for persisitant yeast overgrowth you may need to use the candi-gone (or another) kit 3 or 4 in a row back to back.
The diet recommended on my instruction sheet (I have been eliminating alot of stuff) says to eliminate all:
Eliminate all sugar intake, including artificial sweeteners ( I use stevia)
Eliminate all foods with yeast (I am including all wheat and white flour as well)
Alcohol, pop, coffee, fermented beverages and ciders
condiments, sauces and vinegar products ( mayo, pickles etc)
all fruit fresh, dried and canned no fruit juice
mushrooms and fermented foods such as soy sauce, tofu, saurkraut
cheese and sour milk products (except natural yogourt) butter milk etc
all nuts except raw almonds and seeds
It doesnt look like there is alot left but you do get used to it and if it works I am willing to try anything
if you search the internet for systemic yeast you will get alot of info.
also I have heard that the prescriptions dont clear this out it has to be a cleanse

Hi Stacey,
So how are you doing now???
No, no kids.
Is the garlinase only avaialable online? I tried a few vitamin stores by me and no one carries it.
I have been using yogurt along with a femdophilous and applying that directly for the past few nights and it is helping some.
I do think that it is an intestinal issue as well, since when I took the oral nystatin all my bloating went away magically.
Alexis
I get very afraid I will never be able to have any with this situation going on!

oh I totally believe it lives in your intestines. I had an infection a year ago and I cured it, then it came back this past August. I didn't take antibiotics or anything, so where was it? Probably in my intestines.
Since thursday, I have used two gynazole 1 (one thur and one yesterday) and I am taking oral Itraconazole 200 mg a day. So far the burning has gone away.
I had a depressing weekend...had a cold...and then was going through the "why me" thing. I worry about my relationship, my future, etc. I wanted to have kids, but you're even more predisposed to yeast during pregnancy, soo......
So the oral nystatin helped some? I have never taken that. I have taken vaginal nystatin (summer 2007). It helped but it did not cure it.
Yeah maybe try online for the garlinase. I also am seeing a nutritionist, preparing to do a liver flush.
He has me drinking kefir mixed with a half tablespoon of msm powder and a half a teaspoon of glutamine powder twice a day on an empty stomach. I love the kefir. I am also taking a teaspoon of cod liver oil with meals 2x a day. Today I start on a new regimen, which does include physicians strength oil of oregano.
Alexis so what else have you tried for this?

Check this out, it's high powered probiotic's it may help replace your good bacteria long term. Just a thought. Diana
P.S. I believe it's a prescription strength.

Hey Stacy,
So you feel all better? No symptoms left?
I have tried difllucan (didn't help), terazol (helped some), and now nystatin. I think the oral nystatin is getting rid of it everywhere else excpet the vj.
How did you find out about the garlinase?

Oh no burning came back with a vengance today at work. I was in tears in front of a classroom of kids. So I called the specialist (who I am supposed to see December 2) and luckily he just had a cancellation so I will be going Oct 7. However I am so much on fire I nearly had a breakdown. So I guess now I am resistant to gynazole too!!! What else is left? After speaking with the nurse at the specialists office, I am under the impression he tries to treat resistant yeast with a very high initial dose of diflucan (750 or 800 mg) then a couple weeks of a lower dose? Has anyone ever heard of this?
I am also seeing a nutritiaonist...has me drinking kefir (which I love) mixed with 1/2 tablespoon of msm powder and glutamine. I am taking probiotics which is not seeming to help. I am also taking two teaspoons of cod liver oil with meals daily to up my immune.....
Alexis, a nurse told me about the garlinase. Have you ever tried boric acid???
You've been dealing with this for 2 years???? Have you ever been to a specialist???
I'm about to move out of my boyfriends house and become a nun...seriously I feel so bad for him!

Stacey,
There are other stuff...just stronger...like ketokonazole, fluco something or other which I read someone on this board got cured with.
I have heard of stronger dose diflucan. The only thing with that is that I think that you have to have tests done to make sure you are tolerating it.
Sounds like you have a good doc who is trying different things though which is great. My gyn is doign the same thing.
No, haven't tried the boric acid...been too scared to, but I think it might be time. A specialist...well an infectious disease guy who is very well respected and he gave me voriconizole which didn't help.

Try the boric acid. Product is called yeast arrest. That will come up with the pills that contain boric acid.
Voriconazole did not work? Was the dose high enough? I have read that with glabrata the initial dose is very very important. In other words taking voriconazole 2x a day 100mg or 200mg may not do it, but higher initial doses will.
So you did see a specialist?
I am seeing a specialist in Rochester Tuesday. He is supposed to be very good so we'll see. I am hopeful.
It is ridiculous that nothing will take away this burn.
I believe that last summer the only reason why the gynazole cured it is because of all the things I did before to weaken it (boric acid, nystatin, etc). boric acid does help.
What a nightmare!

Hey Stacey,
No, the voriconizole didn't work. I had tried it a while ago, so I don't remember the dose, but it was enough to give me plenty of dizziness. And on top of it, it was super expensive for a one or two week dose. I also checked to see...and yup I have tried the gynazole 1 before (unsucessfully).
Yeah, that doc wasn't a yeast specialist but a top infectious disease person. Went to a few other people too...one of which told me glabrata wasn't a pathogen and to not treat it and that its all hype...since she had done research on it herself. So...in that sense I am sticking with my new gyn who knew to test to test for it and is trying multiple things to cure it.
There is someone in NY...a yeast specialist. I want to say his last name is Warren? Someone had made a recommendation before.
I believe what you say about a bunch of things to weaken it. Some of the stories I read about cures...all deal with the women trying this and that and eventually the glabrata goes away.
I just tried the yogurt (organic, low sugar) last week and I do believe it helped some. Tried it four days in a row...alongside the nystatin oral.

Hey yes, I meant to get in touch earlier but I was busy. Specialist wants to culture me again and send it to the hospital he works at to get a definitive diagnosis for him. He seemed very knowledgeable and spent about an hour with me. Currently I am using the yeast arrest, which I got online and it is cheap (boric acid). It helps. Also, is it true that glabrata takes a long time to culture out? I am fearful it will not culture out.
He also taught me how to culture myself so on a day where I am very symptomatic I can culture myself and walk it right into the lab.
Fluconazole and diflucan are the same thing....one is the generic....were you treated with that before? For how long and what dose?
I am thinking about trying Via Viente (found online). Its supposed to be a natural way to make your body more alkaline, which I guess is what we need.
The specialist also told me of a study with 300 women, 100 who never got yeast inf, 100 who sometimes did, and 100 who frequently did with severe symptoms. They were all colonized with the same amount of yeast. The 100 women who never get yeast didn't complain of any symptoms, the second group had mild symptoms that went away, and the last group had severe symptoms and had to be treated. That confirms a lot of what I had always thought. I am super sensitive...its not like I'm gushing yeast (that's the problem, no discharge at all)
Anyway, how are you doing??? what are you doing now?

Misty073 - i totally agree with your post and i posted something similar early on in this thread. It's pointless going to doctors who only want to try and treat this vaginally. It does need to be eradicated from the gut and the only way is to starve it to death completely and the only way to do that is by the food elimination diet.
When i did mine just over 10 years ago i went from feeling like a recluse with no energy or life in me to a superwoman who could run a marathon in only a few weeks.
I did the eliminiation diet, probiotic and multivitamin treatment as mine had gotten so bad that i ended up with irritable bowel sydrome and a form of chronic fatigue. The candida had gotten such a strong hold that i couldn't absorb vitamins/minerals naturally from foods.
I agree, you think there wont be any types of foods left to eat, but there are a lot of vegetables, meats, rice which you can eat. I also discovered stevia as a natural sweetener, which even a lot of diabetics are ok with. It's worth going without certain foods to gain the cure. Best of luck to all those trying.

Audrey,
I agree. That's why I am seeing an alternative health doctor as well. Yesterday I wanted a milkshake so bad!!! I figured, I am burning like crazy, I might as well enjoy food at least. But I didn't give in!!! I will stave this crazy yeast.
I believe it is in my gut as well. When the gynazole worked a year ago, it only worked vaginally for 11 months. Why did the yeast come back??? Because it is in my intestines!?
Did you take any meds to get rid of this or did you do the whole thing naturally?

Hey anyone...how long in your experience does glabrata yeast take to culture out??? My new doc sent in a culture last Wednesday and after 5 or 6 days said "no growth, final culture". I KNOW I have glabrata!!! I have heard it takes longer! Please help. What are your experiences with this?

hi stacy - firstly, i dont know what strain of yeast i had. All i know is that it kept returning and returning. The weird thing was that i didn't get 'typical' yeast symptoms. A lot of the time i'd only know something was wrong when my husband and i had sex. Other times there might be a bit of itching, no weird discharge. At one time i thought it had to be something other than yeast, but it was most definitely yeast and i think it comes in many disguises depending on how badly it's infiltrated your body.
Severe cases have been known to affect women's muscles to the point they've ended up on crutches. For men it's even worse and can lead to the yeast attacking the heart. Now these are extreme cases, but when i found this out at the time it did scare me.
I got treated back around and of 1996 -1997 and probiotics were not a big thing back then. I think acidophillous had only come onto the market and a lot of people didn't even know what that was. I went to an alternate doctor who did testing and i was thankfull someone was finally listening. I didn't tell him my symptoms, i let him do the testing to see what he'd say and the test came back with extremely high candida.
He put me on the acidophillous, a good quality multivitamin and a strict diet. We abstained from all sex until i'd been on the diet for a month. As a preventative measure i also treated myself vaginally with an over the counter 7 day treatment and my husband too.
With the over the counter products, you shouldn't ever use the same product back to back. The yeast actually learns to become immune to the same product being used over and over again.
I hear that grapefruit seed extract is supposed to be beneficial in treatment of yeast too.

Hey Stacey,
The only way glabrata has shown up for me is with culturing for a month. Like the mycology testing. Otherwise, it doesn't show up. Apparently it also doesn't look like regular yeast, so I think it has to grow in sufficient numbers to make it obvious. But did you see him when you were using the boric acid? That could affect results too.
No, there is another med, not fluconizone...but something else that I can't exactly recall, but it starts with fly...or so and I believe it is a cream that I read glabrata is susceptible to and read somewhere where one lady got cured using it.
I tried fluconizole/diflucan for a month, low dose (100 units) and it helped some but not too much. I just finished terazole and that helped more. I am wondering if I should just ask to continue on that for a longer period since it helps. Meanwhile on the oral nystatin for the possible gi issue. I ordered the garlinase you suggested and will use that too. Geez, right?
Just fyi, I don't have too much discharge either. I've read taht that is the case with glabrata. That is prob. why a lot of doc. dismiss yeast as a possible cause of symptoms.

Yes well I'm upset because the specialist called me yesterday and after letting my culture grow for 5 days said "no yeast final culture". And nope, I wasn't using the boric acid at the time. This specialist cannot see me again until January to culture the skin (cause I guess yeast can invade your tissues). So I called a specialist in Baltimore, by my dad's house, and talked to the nurse there. The nurse there said yeast can take up to 30 days to culture. They can get me in there in 2 or 3 weeks. So I guess its a no brainer! I will continue the boric acid and make the appointment for 4 weeks incase I am burning! I can't wait until January with this.
Ask to stay on terazol longer. I've heard of women being cured with this but only after using it for like 3 weeks.
I'm real upset about this specialist. Why don't they know resistant yeast can take up to 30 days to culture?
who is helping you a gyn or a gyn specialist???
Good luck!!! I think of you often! How are you feeling!

stacey,
Just make sure when you do go, that you are off of medication for a while so that the yeast has grown enough. Like I know for me a week or two off med. doesn't provide enough time for it to grow to show up on the culture.
A reg. gyn. I tried the specialists and I want to stick to someone who I feel cares enough to follow through. I get the sense with the glabrata that it is trial and error.
Really? Terazol for three weeks cured someone? What dosage? I felt improved on it after a week...not cured but better, so will think about what to do next. Ask for more...ask for a higher dose...

Yes terazol 7 she used, once in morning once in evening for like two or three weeks. She used a tampon to keep it in the morning. How long did you use the terazol before you started to feel better? I used it for like 5 days with no improvement whatsoever. Burning like nuts.
Alexis have you ever had a biopsy. The specialist wants me to have a biopsy because it can invade the skin. That I believe. My burning is mostly external, vulvar.
Omg, two weeks without meds? That will be painful!!!! I will be on fire!

Stacey,
Terazol 7 days started helping like day 5. That's why I think i need to be on it longer.
No, I have never had a biopsy, since from day one I tested pos. for the glabrata and have tested pos. a few times for it...The gyn says she can see it though its scant and it looks like yeast to her since it adhers.
But maybe going without the med...will make the glabrata grow enough to show up so you don't have to do the biopsy. Just an idea since the biopsy can't be fun either.

Yep I'll be going without any meds. My symptoms stop with my period. Do yours?
Good luck with the terazol. I have heard it has worked before. Let me know if it does.
The med that many people get cured from glabrata with is something called flucyosine (sp?). The brand name of this is ancobon, and it is made by a compounding pharmacy. They crush the pills into a vaginal cream of some sort.
Why hasn't your gyn tried that yet?
What is the mycology culture? Just wondering...I will definitley be doing another culture...but I am not satisfied with the 5 day ones.

Hey Stacy,
Right before my period is worse. I read that there is a hormonal component so...that makes it worse.
The mycology is the test that runs for a month.
The gyn is trying different things...I see her in a bit and will talk to her about more terazol. From what I get, it isn't so common the glabrata and mostly like trial and error.
Are you feelign any better?

I just thought I would come and update. I have been doing the yeast cleanse diet for 1.5 months now, plus the oil of oregano and 2 candida cleanse kits, and I did a monistat 3 day kit recently (which never worked for me before)
And for the first time in 4 years I have no symptoms...No itching at all. I have tried many creams over the last 4 years (even some of the ones named here) and nothing worked, finally I guess it was the combination of everything I have done...I will not go back to my usual diet but I have added some stuff back in.
I really recommend trying this...I never thought I would get rid of this...I will update again to let you know if I get any symptoms back.
Oh and I forgot to mention I have been tested over and over again for yeast by different doctors and they always said this was not a yeast infection...but apparently it was.

Your symptoms were limited to itching?
Which cleanse kits did you use?

Hey girls!
Misty I am very happy for you. I keep saying that about myself...one day all of this stuff I am doing will "click". I am also doing an anti yeast cleanse, with the oil or oregano, and I will be doing a liver flush next weekend.
Misty, I also cannot get a positive yeast culture back. However, I know it is yeast because it is the same symptoms I had summer of 2007 when it was yeast. My symptoms are not itching though. Only burning.
Alexis, I feel ok for the time being because I just got over my period. The burning stops during my period. Then it comes back with a vengenance. Alexis what are your symptoms...more like mine, right?
I talked to a doctor by my dad's in Baltimore and he said yeast can take from 30-40 days to culture out! I think this is why I am getting negative cultures.
Misty, how long were your cultures?

Hi Alexis and the other girls! How are you all feeling? Have been doing the boric acid for two weeks, and I have responded. I wonder if I should continue with the boric acid? Does anyone know if boric acid cures or just suppresses yeast?
Alexis how is it going? What are you on now? How is the terazol going?

Hey Stacey,
Continuing with terazol. Hoping extending it will make a differnce, since it seems like the only thing so far that helps.
I read or heard that boric acid isn't like the antifungals in how it works...that is changes the ph level so that the yeast is unable to survive and so eventually just die off. So its not like it is suppressing them.
I am glad the boric acid is working. This is the first time you have used it right? I haven't tried it.

Alexis,
Hey how are you. No I used boric acid in summer of 2007 with my last infection. It helped but it did not clear things up. Maybe it is because my fiancee and I had just gotten together at the time and we were having sex quite a bit when I was on it. Maybe it didn't stay in me enough to work.
Do you hear about people getting completely cured on boric acid?
How long have you been on the terazol now? Still helping?
How long was it until you felt relief on the terazol?
Take care!

Hey Stacey,
Still on the terazol. This is week two. I thought it was helping till yesterday. I don't know if the new turn of events is becuase I am about to get my period. Very frustrating.
How are you doing on the boric acid?
Oh and I have heard of people getting cured on the boric acid. Plus there are studies online that show that it is successful for glabrata for like between 70-95% of the patients.

Alexis that sucks.
So do you feel right back where you began when you first started terazol?
Has your doc said to stay on the terazol at the same time while doing something oral as well.
I am still on boric acid. Only a few more days until I will have reached my 28 days.
I feel as if the burn may be coming back.
If this doesn't work I don't know what I will do. Its gonna be a sucky holiday season....

Alexis,
I have my period now so my symptoms completely disappear. It is odd you say you are having other testing done , I have been thinking the exact same thing. My only symptom is extreme vulvar burning. Have you had all of your hormones checked? Bloodwork and all? More than just the thyroid, you know. I have heard estrogen or lack of it can cause symptoms like this. What is going on with you? How are you feeling?
I know you get worse with your period but do you ever get any total symptom relief. Have you had a biopsy? I have heard if it gets into your tissue it can be really hard to get rid of....a cream will never do it. Let me know.

Hey stacey,
Yeah, my hormones were out of whack and so I am on bcp. That has regulated me so that the cysts that I get here and there are shrinking. that provides extra estrogen. Other bloodwork is fine. thyroid is fine. no diabetes.
I never get total symptom relief, no unfortunately.
My doc says she suspected bv, so I am treating for that now. The irritation may be better, but the itching is way worse.
Tell me something when you use the boric acid and you say that it burns/itches externally, how do you get the boric acid to help there? does is permeate the skin or how does it help there? I am thinking about that since boric acid helps glabrata and bv.
I haven't had a biopsy, no.

Boric acid has never burned me. Buy size 00 empty capsules, and fill them with boric acid. Try it 2 times a day for 14 days, see if you respond.
Have you ever talked to a Dr. Marjorie Crandall? She is a yeast expert and scientist. I was led to her from a vulvodynia website I was on. I consulted with her over the phone and she believes I have the type of yeast that has grown into the tissue, since I never culture out, but based on my history. Look her up and see if she can help you. She was very helpful to me.

Hi,
Apparently I have had this glabrata yeast for 11 yrs now until last year diagnosis. However the doctors treated me on short term basis with diflucan and terazol. I contiinue to have bad itching as well as all over my body. Yes i got it from man who did not seem to care anything. Does anyone know a doctor who specializes in this type of candida and anyone who has been cured using boric acid suppositores and diclfucan on a long term basis such as six months? I heard it is resistant to azole meds which is what diflucan is.
I have tried most of everything and nothings seems to work. Why isnt there more information for women so that they cna be aware of this yeast.
I believe its in the deeper layers of my skin hence the constant itching all over.
Anyone please help if you can.

If you are suffering from burning try Lotrisone. It took away my burning after one week of using it. You can't imagine the relief I had after a year and half of constant burning on vulva. However the itching still continued. I am hoping the boric acid suppository works. Also I read that flucytosine pills crushed and made into an oinment is helpful and even cured some women of glabrata. If there is anyone out there that has been cured using flucytosine ointment on the external vulvar, please let us know.
The only way to know is sharing information and letting the docs know when we visit them so that they can help us along the way.
Thanks

What state do you live in?
Boric acid will help a lot. Buy a product called yeast arrest on the internet...
it will help but you have to use for longer than 14 days.
Go to vulvodynia websites and look for their specialists. There are docs who specialize in this...Dr. Glazer in NYC, Dr. Susan Kellogg Spadt in Philly.
Also look up Dr. Marjorie Crandall and do a phone consult with her. It has helped me tremendously.
When you cultured for glabrata how long did your culture take to grow?
Where do get lotrisone?
Diflucan and terazol need to be used longer for glabrata. I have heard of a woman who used diflucan for six months straight.

Alexis,
BV now? So now what are you using. Try the boric acid Alexis. It can't hurt. It never burned me only helped.
So...I never get any itching. None at all. Just burning.
I had a phone consult with Dr. Marjorie Crandall and she thinks I have a yeast condition called "red yeast" where the yeast actually invades the tissues. No cream will treat it since it is protected by the skin, and this is the burning sensation I get. She was very knowledgeable. This red yeast would explain the burning, and the fact that a cream never treats it, not even the lotrisone makes any difference. This would also explain why I never culture out.
You should look her up and perhaps call her.
Get size 00 capsules and buy boric acid online. Make them yourself. I think it may help you.

Ans to your questions.
---------------------
When you cultured for glabrata how long did your culture take to grow?
Docs came back with diagnosis in about 3 days--3/6/7 collected swab reported on 3/9/07. (well at least that's what they said on report) How its possible they can come back that fast with diagnosis still concerns me.
Recently doc collected another swab specimen and it took 3 weeks for the results to come back--although it was negative.
Where do get lotrisone?
I was given Lotrsone cream because I asked for it at planned parenthood. This worked for me after much trial and error with other meds/creams. It took away the burning within a week. I never had burning again ONLY itching.
Also glabyes, do you get symptom relief when you get your period?
Not really.
Are you on birth control?
No birth control
What preceded this for you.
I NEVER had any such female problems prior to getting this. It was also within 45 minutes of having sex contact that noticed itching then it became severe mostly nights. prickly feeling/itching
This "red yeast" someone posted sounds familiar like what I have.
Does anyone complain of sticky feeling on vulva as well as something prickly?
I appreciate you guys responding so fast. Is has been quite a journey with this yeast/fungus and docs seems to not know very much about this (at least the ones I have seen which included (derms, allergist, obgyn, infectious disease) etc
Thanks

Glabyes,
I have never actually cultured positive for glabrata, or any yeast since over a year and a half ago, I had a regular itchy yeast infection.
I now believe it has invaded my skin.
You used lotrison straight for a week before you didn't burn?
I only burn, no itch, no discharge, nothing vaginally at all. Just vulvar burning.
I do get relief with my period, complete symptom relief actually. Dr. Crandall gave me an explanation about this, she was very knowledgable.
What specialists have you seen?

Hi Stacey,
Taking an antibiotic for the bv. It has helped get rid of some of the irritation and most of the itch. Now I am eating yogurt like crazy to avoid or at least not make the yeast worse.
My doc and I talked about boric acid and we agreed that this is somethign to try soon.
Are you still on the boric acid?

Sorry I have not been back to update until now.
I was completely symptom free then I got my period and everything came back full force.
I was very depressed and discouraged so I finally decided to see my naturalpath.
She wanted me to have a specific test done (I cant afford it right now, its $500.00 and I dont know if its covered under our extended health) but she said this test will tell me exactly if it is yeast and they also try different things to treat it in the lab before they get me to try stuff.
She did say that given my history and my symptoms she is sure its yeast but she would like me to take the test to find out specifically how to treat it. Anyways until I figure if its covered she has given me some stuff to do. The most important is I am now taking grapefruit seed extract (this is a known yeast killer) and no dairy (not even yogurt), no bread or yeast foods and no suger (except for the juice I take the grapefruit seed extract in) no fermented stuff no condiments with sugar...basically just lots of veggies (these feed the good bacteria in your body), protien (like meat and eggs, but dont over do it as this in itself can feed bad bacteria in your body) good grains like rye (no yeast) and lots of others but I basically stick to rye crackers, seed but no nuts...I will add more when I find my list of allowable foods.
She did say that your hormones play a big part in all of this as well and thats why all my symptoms came back full force. And she also said that as long as my husband wasnt taking anything than he would just keep giving it back to me. So I have also started him on the grapefruit seed extract. I am not symptom free yet but have noticed a decrease in itching. I have also noticed that I feel crappy...headaches everyday, and sometimes ill to my stomach and some other flu like symptoms. So this tells me it is working and I am having die off symptoms.
I will update later (I promise) and good luck everyone...I would highly suggest if possible to maybe see a natural path your self. I did look up yeast over growth on the internet and I am sure this is what I have, but there is so much information on the internet that it hard to tell what is right and what is not.

i have no idea if i have this kind of vaginal yeast infection. what i do know is that ive been dealing with these buggers for a couple years now. when i had my latest pap smear, 2 months ago, the results came back adequate heavy yeast. thing is, i have no itching. my symptoms occur during and after Sex. the buring is pretty bad. i sometimes get little fissures which feel like tiny papercuts.
the Rest of my pap smear Was normal. i do not have diabetes and labs showed no signs of thyroid problems.
i have not yet been cheked for hiv. i heard/read this is a primary symptom, so maybe when i go to the doc today i should inquire.
ive been supplementing with candex, probiotics, and grapseed Extract. i cant say i know For sure if this is working b/c i was on 2 antibiotics about 4 weeks ago for a bad sinus infection.
when she treated me for my last yeast infection about 2 months ago, i got the single difflucan tablet. i didnt notice a difference afterwards.
i Want To try the boric acid, but im just afraid with the fissuring, it will cause some irritation.

bebe,
there is a publication called glabrata: review of epidemiology, pathogenesis, and clinical disease with respect to c. albicans. Search and in there the authors say that with glabrata it is less itch and less discharge but more burning and the same inflammation as albicans yeast. One of the authors is sobel.

thank You for the information.. i went to the doctor today and told her i thought i had another yeast infection. i had one in August, and she said it was heavy localized growth of candia albicans. so does that mean glabrata is not a concern?
2day she did an exam, and i still have vaginal yeast. she put me on 14 days of fluconazole. i also asked to Test for hiv, which i hope isnt a concern.
i also wonder if certain clothing can encourage yeast growth. we are encouraged to wear form fitting black pants at work. mine are a combo of nylon, rayon and polyester. i do not wear any type of underwear either. maybe something with the dye can create problems. my friend's sister, who is a nurse, told me black dyes are a no-no for yeast infections. maybe i should start wearing cotton underwear.

Hi Alexis,
I have not been taking anything because when I get my period it stops. So I had my period last monday (the 10th) I believe, and the buring has not come back yet. It is triggered by my ovulation I believe. I have consulted with Dr. Marjorie Crandall (in California) and she believes I have "red" yeast not glabrata, which would explain all the negative cultures. I think you should try the boric acid. You have nothing to lose at this point. It doesn't hurt, just wear a pantyliner because it melts.
Bebe,
yes a heavy overgrowth of albicans is different than glabrata. And the 14 days of fluconazole may help. For a lot of people 1 pill of diflucan does not help. And it makes sense...I mean when you get an infection, they give you a week or two of antibiotics not one pill. Fluconazole is fungistatic, which means it stops the growth of yeast, it does not Kill it. Which is why you may need more.
Alexis,
are you still using terazol at all?
Maybe it would help to get off the pill? Has the issue that is keeping you on the pill resolved?

Hi Stacey,
I have to be on the bcp since it helps (though very slowly) with an ovarian cyst that I have that used to be very painful.
I stopped the terazol since both my doc and I thought I had bv and I went on medicine for that. I am almost finished with that now and then will go from there. The antibiotic helped a lot with the itching.
We talked about boric acid as the next step. See my doc in a couple weeks after my body comes down from the bv med. The boric acid would help with both the glabrata and the bv...since it affects the ph level.
What is red yeast? Never heard of that.
And you did a 30 day fungal culture right? That is the only way glabrata has shown up.

Hi Alexis.
red yeast is when it grows under your skin. Not a resistant strain, just a yeast that grows under the layer of your skin so it is protected from treatment. Treatment is usually longer term diflucan along with a hydrocortisone 2.5% cream. It never cultures and the only symptom is burning.
I am starting to believe this is what I have since I never culture out. and my only symptom is burning.
Lately the only time I have burning is right before my period. I am due soon so I will let you know how it goes. I am praying it does not start again.
How are you doing?
Did you look up that doctor I told you about? She was very helpful in her consult.

can someone please recommend a doctor in california who could test me for glabrata or red yeast. i am miserable and think i may have this.
i have had discharge for two years but doctors keep saying that there is nothing in my cultures.... sometimes they would give me yeast creams just to see but my cultures showed no yeast. i have been diagnosed with vulvodynia but my discharge started the day my pain started so i definately think they are related. i don't think that i just randomly became dischargey the day i started having pain... if you know what i mean. i am sure something is going on with my discharge which is causing me this pain, no matter what the doctors say. i know there is something causing this discharge. and when i take antibiotics the discharge gets worse, there must be a correlation. any advice/help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Hi Stacey,
Thanks for the info. I have never heard of that.
I am about to start on the terazol again since that helps.
Have you tested for bv too? That is aggrevated right before the period too.

Well I am now symtom free (so far) the grapefruit seed extract is working. (GSE) I am taking it internally and using some in a spray bottle everytime I use the washroom. I am due to get my period soon (anyday now) so we will see how things go as last month my symptoms came back right away...even so I am so relieved to find something that is actually working compared to all the creams and prescriptions I have been given over the last 4 years.
I will post again and update how things are going.

Misty,
That is wonderful!!! Lucky!
I am still in trial and error to figure out what will get rid of it, rather than just alleviate a bit.
What else have you used?

I am still combining the diet with the grapefruit seed extract. It takes a while to get rid of it out of your system and my natural path said that hormones will affect it, that is why it came back when I had my period last month...but I am hoping that this month I have been working at it longer so it wont come back. But even so, this is the longest that I have been symptom free and so it seems like I am finally on the right track...if it comes back during my period I will just keep doing what I am doing and see what happens next month when I get my period...eventually it will be gone.

I would be interested in finding a doctor in southern CA too. I have posted once or twice before (very little succuses w/ RX drugs) and have had some success with apple cider vinegar tablets or organic apple cider vinegar (very hard for me to drink so i now take the tablets). After taking antibiotics and getting this never ending yeast infection it seems like Ive since had a very slight discharge...could be mistaken for normal (but nothing like full blown yeast infection discharge) One doctor told me it was normal, but I dont remember it prior to the irritation and itching. Anyway, the good news is that I have been drinking 1-2 cups of organic aloe vera juice (whole leaf) and this seems to be helping a considerable amount. Relatively no discharge (only if I eat high carb or sugar) And I've been feeling MUCH better...not normal but better. Anyway just wanted to relay to those that feel that this is an intestinal issue (i do) the apple cider vinegar and aloe vera juice balance the PH and inhibit the yeast invironment. As long as I can stick to my "diet" )no sugar, flour, etc. Hopefully this will go away for good and I can finally be normal again. I also currently take high potency biotin, GSE, Allimax (alliicin), 1-2 cloves garlic daily or ever other day (chopped and swallowed) -not sure if any of these are working...i just realized that seems like a lot. Ive been dealing with this for almost 3 years and cant wait for it to be over.

dear vv sufferer in california....the dr name I consulted with in california is Dr. Marjorie Crandall.
I also did not have symptoms this month. I am cautiously optimistic. I have also been following the diet and did 2 liver flushes.
I want to do another liver flush but I have a cold right now so it has to wait.
Alexis, see a nautropath or nutritionist!! Got my period today, no burning before my period...first time in months...so I am CAUTIOUSLY optimistic.

Misty,
I hope you are still doing great.
I have a question on the grapefruit seed extract. How do you use the liquid? How many drops do you use in a glass of water? Want to try this out.

Hi,
I believe I may be a glabrata sufferer as well. I was treated with many antibiotics (an IV) for a suspected chalmydial infection this past summer. To another doctor I go to, (my main OBGYN - a different OBGYN diagnosed the chlamydia) he tells me he never thought I had it and that the other doc was just making up my diagnosis. SO, I went to ANOTHER doc, in Manhattan who specializes in vaginitis, after my antibiotic therapy, and he tells me, I have yeast glabrata and perscribed me nystatin vaginal suppositories. They didn't really help much, my symptoms are still here.
SO, I have a few questions. How can you get tested for glabrata overgrowth in your stomach? What have you all tried that was most successful? So far I have read that garlic, grape seed extract, and a few other medications seem to have worked...what has worked best? I have tried diflucan, hasn't really worked at all either.
I have burning symptoms, with very little discharge. I do not have any STDs or bacterial infections because I was tested extensively for all of that stuff with expensive tissue cultures from my cervix and uterus wall. all negative. My hormones and thyroids are all in check, and I don't have diabetes. SO, I feel now that the glabrata is causing my discomfort.
Any suggestions or input would be a HUGE help!

Hi Angel,
Sorry to hear about your suffering. I tried diflucan 400mg for two weeks still did not do anything (2007). I am currently on six months course of one pill per month 150 mg. So far has not seen any changes with itching, there is no burning. Boric acid has stopped the discharge (minute amount) but I still have itching on vulva really bad and pratically all over my body.
I consulted with Dr. Crandall and she suggested I get tested for candida allergy. So I am currently trying to see if an allergist can test for it. I had my condition for many many years.
Can you tell me if your expereincing itching all over your body and your skin feels sticky?
It would help if anyone can post name of doctors who know how to treat vulva itching that has nothing to do with vulvadynia (because I dont have this vulvadynia). This was caused by contact.
