i hace not been with anyone but my boyfriend in the last seven years. he cheated one year ago. i get checked once a year for std's and full blood work. he is the only one i've ever had anal sex with. i had a huge anal herpe first outbreak. we have been having anal sex more than usual in the past month. he has never had an outbreak but i know that i am std free. why did i barely contract the virus now and not sooner. is it possible he has cheated recently to pass the virus to me

herpes has no cure, it lies dormant in your nerves until a possible future outbreak. It is difficult to test for herpes unless you have an outbreak. there is a possibilty that your b/f has it as well but has yet to show symptoms. I have herpes simplex which is the one that causes cold sores i have had it my entire life and will always have it. Alot of people are unaware of how common herpes is. Most people actually have the virus long before they have an outbreak so knowing when you contracted it is virtually impossible. It can lie dormant in your body for years. Hope this information helps some.

Ok, confusing. You say you had a huge anal herpes first outbreak. Were you tested? By swab or blood test? Results? Type?
You say you had STD tests and were STD free. Herpes is NOT part of a standard STD testing. Do you know for fact that you were tested and were negative for herpes? Has he been tested?
Too many pieces of the puzzle missing in your question.
Generally the best way to know if this is a new infection is to have swab/blood test done at same time. If swab comes back positive but blood test comes back negative that GENERALLY indicates a new infection as your body has not had time to produce enough antibodies.
He could have had this for many years and it just passed to you now. Or you could have had it for many years and just started to show symptoms that were enough to seek medical attention.
If you have yours/his test results post them.
Just because you are showing symptoms does not automatically mean that he cheated on you. This virus is spread mostly by people who HAVE it but do not KNOW they have it.
