i remember reading an article about herpes and it said that usually 9 out of 10 people have it but alot won't have symptoms. Is that number true? Also I have had cold sores as long as I can remember and now have a blister on my genital area(it seems to be very mild),could this be a form of herpes caused by my cold sores?

Type 1 = oral herpes = cold sores on mouth/lip typically = estimated that 80 -90% of adult population have it
Type 2 = genital herpes = sores on genitals typically = estimated that 20% of adult population have it

If someone has type 1 on mouth and performs oral sex on your genitals, you could get type 1 on your genitals. Same goes for somone has type 2 on genitals and you perform oral sex on them, you could get type 2 on your mouth.
The only way to tell if what you have on your genitals is type 1 or type 2 is to have the sore swabbed and typed by your doctor. Does you partner also have type 1 (oral cold sores)?
