I have had some major problems with the fact that I am menopausal. I am extremely dry down there and my urethra is very sensitive. I was told that when you go through menopause that you lose collagen in these area's. Being with my husband is very painful and makes me bleed. Plus I just flat out hurt there.

The GYN gave me Premarin which is estrogen cream that I insert every night before bed. She instructed me to also rub some into the urethra opening. I have used this every night since Wednesday. However, yesterday I found I have pain in my lower stomach. Can't tell if the pain is coming from my uterus or bladder. No pain to urinate but I hurt more when I have to go. So I got some over the counter Azo and this did help ease off the pain.

I really need this medication and I am wondering if I just stick it out for the 14 days and see if it makes a big difference. This morning I am only achy. Has anyone else had this side effect from this.

I am thinkin you just might coincidentally have a bladder infection and need to take a urine sample to the doctors. You will need an antibiotic to clear it up.

Oh I hope you are correct.

I have blood in my urine. So it must not be this cream but a coincidence.

blood in the urine can also signify bladder or uti infection.

Went back to the doctor last Saturday and after the exam which nearly brought me off the table. She again checked out my urine and said I had high amounts of white cells in my urine. So she gave me a sulfur antibiotic and I am starting to feel better. I have held off using the premarin cream till tonight. I am going to use it every third day.

Hi Anita,

I'm glad you saw your Dr.

Your vagina has atrophied and the tissues have become thin from lack of estrogen. That is why intimacy with your husband is so painful and causes you to bleed.

The Premarin cream should help as would hormone therapy.

I wish you the best.

I was prescribed Estrace cream for the same problems you have.

I was told, however, to use a very tiny amount, no more than a bit on a fingertip, around the vaginal opening, not really INside the vagina itself.

Doctor said use it for two weeks straight; then only on occasion. After the two weeks, things were pretty good, and two years later I only apply the cream, a very tiny bit, once every few months or so. Doctor also said you have to "use it or lose it" as well, so make sure to have relations at least a few times per month.

Your other issues sound urinary in nature and not really related to the cream you used.
