My husband has the mumps, never had them as a kid and is reallly uncomfortable. He jaws are really swollen and he is having discomfort in the groin and in the glands of the neck.
He also is feverish and just exhausted. He tells me the pain is so bad that he thinks that he is going to faint.
He is allergic to somthing in the MMR and that's why he didn't get that.
Any suggestions?

The mumps usually pass without severe incident. Keep him hydrated. Water is essential. Make sure he doesnt move too much. Aggravating any muscle(s) that are irritated could cause unecessary continuation of pain which could be exausting for the muscle. Monitor him closely make sure he doesnt black out. If the problem presist see a doctor for some antibiotics and/or pain killers. Good Luck!

Antibiotics will be no good against mumps. Mumps is a viral illness, not bacterial and antibiotics are only effective against viruses rather than bacteria.

Thank you for your replies. I have been making sure that he drinks plenty of fluids and stays cool since he has a fever. He did have a black out spell from the pain. The doctor says he should stay off of his feet while he is still lightheaded and to help with the pain.
