I have a faint brown line that funs the length of my fingernail and starts at the cuticle. It is not painful and it has not given me any problems. It showed up about 3 months ago and I don't have a clue as to what it could be. Does anyone know or have the same problem?

I would see your dermatologist. It could be an infection in the Matrix or it could be a nail 'mole' which can be benign or malignant. Please see your dermatologist - it will not go away on its own.

Thank you! I will do just that! I appreciate your advice.

One more thing.......what if it does turn out to be malignant? I've never heard of that.

Benign means it isn't cancerous, Malignant means it is. Either way, it should be removed if it is a growth in the matrix. Only your dermatologist would be able to diagnosis the actual problem and suggest a remedy. It could also be an infection of the matrix, but there again, it is a medical condition that needs to be properly diagnosed.
