Thank you Sponsor cattys 10-17-2003, 09:58 PM Serratia is a very nasty bug. It is resistant to alot of antibiotics. Cipro works well to kill of this nasty bacteria. tryingtofeelgood 10-19-2003, 05:53 PM did he acquire this infection in the hospital? I would suggest getting an infectious disease doctor in and trying some antibiotics that are sensitive to serratia. I wish your father the best of health. Bruce 11-10-2003, 02:13 PM Serratia marcesens is a typical opportunistic bacilli that under usual conditions does not cause an infection. You didn't state the source, but the organism can cause a UTI, and if it is allowed to get established, can cause septicemia, osteomylitis. It is rersistant to most antibiotics, and a culture would be helpful. Bruce retired microbiologist |
