Can genital herpes lie dormant for years and then make an appearance or once infected, symptoms show quickly. Also can blisters appear anyway else on the body like an arm or is that more associated with shingles or another form of the herpes strain?

Yes, It can lay dormant. It is spread through a break in the skin, so I feel that it can and I have heard that it can appear on back, butt, face lip thigh anus, finger, eyes, etc. So it is quite possible to be other areas.
