I just found out I need to have a root canal and crown. I don't have dental insurance through my job, so I subscribe to a dental savings plan. The cost under this plan is running around $1500. Does anyone know around how much this would cost if I went to a school? Has anyone had a procedure at a school? Any advice? Anyone know of any other options for cutting down the cost of a root canal/crown a little?

The thing about a root canal is they can and will fail if not done well. I blew a years insurance plus some cash on one root canal AND then had to pay the same Dentist to extract it a couple months down the road after it abscessed. Only positive thing I can say is thank God I hadn't paid the 900 bucks he wanted to crown it.

My dentist referred me to an endodontist to see if I needed a root canal. The endodontist recommended a root canal and charged me $100.00 for the visit. The root canal will cost $900 and the crown, (done by the dentist), will cost $800 . Since the tooth in question is the last upper jaw tooth, I am going to ask my dentist if I should just have the tooth pulled, which would only cost $150.00. The thing you have to be sure of though, is that pulling the tooth won't affect your "bite".
