THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG POST. BUT HOPEFULLY SOMEONE CAN HELP. PLEASE SHED SOME LIGHT ONTO MY CONFUSED STATE.

Right now i'm at my last straw. i recently just got diagnosed with HSV1, HSV2, and HPV. These are the chain of events. I met the love of my life, the man i thought i would marry... fell in love.. went through a moment of insanity and broke up with him because we differed on a big topic. to this day i regret ever breaking up with him. however we have been keeping in touch over the months/years and been going back and forth. but because our lives are so busy with school ... work.. it just hasnt been the right time and feelings have been lost on one end ( his end, probably due to all the drama). he is the only guy that i have ever slept with and been intimate with. this year we slept together in the end of June a few days later i got a booster shot for tetanus and diphtheria 1 day after ( 5 days after sex) my lymph node by my groin region was swollen for 2 days... that same week his lymph node in his neck was also swollen. i dismissed it as being something serious b/c i thought it got swollen due to the booster shot (retrospectively that was a stupid assumption). middle july we had sex again. 9 days after both of my lymph nodes by my neck got swollen, the size of golf balls..... i came down with a fever, my tonsils were swollen, and i noticed sores/blisters in the genital region. i went to the gyno and she told me after examining me that i had genital herpes. i did a blood test ( IgG) and came back positive for HSV1 and HSV2.

I informed him that i tested positive and he should also get tested too. during this entire time he was not experiencing any symptoms (and still not exhibiting any symptoms). he got tested at the same lab and his results came back positive for HSV1 and HSV2. my first outbreak was the worst experience in my life i thought i was going to die. i was on acyclovir and i was continually getting outbreaks. i was then changed to the 1 tab bid, for 3 days valtrex, but that wasnt helping....i finally was changed to valtrex suppressive therapy and everything has cleared up. he then went and got another test done. a herpes select test and his results came back negative for HSV1 and HSV2. his antibodies were well below the suspected range ( < 0.9).

i am sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo confused, sacred, depressed...i'm going through five million emotions. i dont know where i could of gotten this from because i have only been intimate with one man. i briefly dated someone earlier this year and we kissed.. but that was it, nothing sexual. next to that i'm wondering if i was abducted by aliens and was then infected with the virus. i dont know where i got this from, and it is driving me crazy. i feel like i've lost so much of the person who i am to these invading viruses that have taken over my body. i'm so sad. i'm a raging mad woman, and that is NOT who i am. i feel like i will never be loved or experience love again. i'm afraid of being alone. worst of all i know i've lost the love of my life forever. the person who balances me out and makes me calm and when i look into their eyes i see stars.... I've been so careful all these years as to waiting for the right person and then when i do decide to share myself this drops in my lap. i dont think i will ever get the guts to tell someone i care about or that i'm dating that i have these viruses. plus i dont think he believed me when i told him that i've only slept with him. that is the truth. he blieves the lab results...can you blame him? i told the other guy who i kissed to get tested also, just incase my situation is some freak mutated form.

if anyone medical..nonmedical .. has advice or has heard or gone through a similar situation please respond! I NEED your help!!!

Unfortunately, although most of the IgG tests have a 96-97% accuracy rate, that still leaves 3-4% of a margin of error.

Did you see his test results? Were they really IgG? Could they have been IgM?

The Western Blot is considered the 'gold standard' of herpes blood tests. He could ask his doctor to process his blood and send it off to them for testing. But, if this was a new infection for him also, the blood tests could be negative as it takes 3-4 months before the antibodies are at a level to be detected by the test.
You were only diagnosed by blood test only or did you also have some swab done?

I did not see his test results (we are currently living in different towns), all i know is that he had a HerpesSelect Test done which is type specific, so it tests for IgG. I also had a blood test done IgG (late july), but not a swab test done. His first test was done at the same lab (early august) i did my blood test at, and that test came back positive for both HSV1 and HSV2. but suppossedly the doctor said that they have been having problems with the lab. When he went to get a second opinion ( the herpes select test, type specific) that is when he got a negative test result. So now i'm very confused??? I havent slept with anyone else.. how could he be negative if he supposedly had this for awhile or accquired it earlier in the year ( he recently slept with a women in march of this year but she got tested and her results were negative for HSV2, but positive for HSV1)... thus the confusion continues.

Herpes is a sneaky virus that no one can really pin point when, how and where it starts and why. If someone has it then they could have contracted it years ago and not known it because it never erupted. We all have virus's in our bodies. This just happens to be annoying because it pops up in the most undesirable places. If it was a patch on our arm, we wouldn't be so miserable. It's not a dangerous virus, just an embarassing one because of where it appears.
