My girl says she tested positive for herpes antibodies eight years but has never had an outbreak. Does the virus ever just go into remission never to return?

It can do that but it doesn't mean that it will never will come back. Sometimes the outbreaks are so mild, you never know you have them and the partner never gets it. The virus is there always and never goes away
